Lubrizol to Launch Estane® SMART TPU Series for Smart Wearable Devices Market
Shanghai, China, Jan 7, 2016 - The Lubrizol Corporation's Engineered Polymers business is launching a new series of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) products for smart wearable devices, Estane® SMART TPU. The Estane SMART TPU product portfolio is specifically designed to address the rapidly growing wearable device market, particularly for soft-touch bands in smartwatches and fitness tracker applications.
The Estane SMART TPU series includes both aromatic and aliphatic TPU grades with hardness levels ranging from 70A to 88A. Depending on OEM requirements, the product portfolio offers the wearable market a solution for soft materials having robust mechanical properties and good chemical and UV resistance. The series' improved moldability will allow our customers to increase their production efficiency and therefore their competitiveness.

Ultra Purge Releases New Ultra-X Technology
Moulds Plus International, the manufacturer of Ultra Purge, is proud to announce the release of a new and improved Ultra Purge grade called 5150. The Ultra Purge 5150 is a HDPE based hybrid purging compound that does not contain any glass fibers. The 5150 uses Ultra-X, a new proprietary technology specifically developed by Moulds Plus International. This new technology, when combined with the Ultra Purge active ingredients, creates a very efficient purging power capable of deeply dissolving colors as well as carbon deposits. The Ultra Purge 5150 is formulated as a new evolution of the existing Ultra Purge 5050 and it shows an increase in performance while making the purging process faster and more user friendly. The 5150 is also hot runner safe, moldable, food contact certified and can be used on all thermoplastic processing machines.
Ultra-X has the property of fluidizing the polymer, thus, allowing the Ultra Purge grades to flow through very small gates (as small as 0.2 mm) and at the same time it adds scrubbing power without harming the screw, barrel and hot runners. Ultra-X increases the cleaning efficiency of the Ultra Purge by up to 30% because it helps the carriers of the Ultra Purge to keep its "hardness/consistency" while allowing the active ingredients to expand and reach the dead spots of the machine where color and carbon contamination normally hide.
RTP Company to Begin Producing Nylon Bondable Santoprene™ TPV Compounds
Global custom engineered thermoplastics compounder RTP Company has licensed manufacturing rights from ExxonMobil Chemical for their patented Santoprene™ TPV (thermoplastic vulcanizate) nylon bondable thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) product line. RTP Company has begun producing the products using the same Santoprene™ TPV technology to provide current users a seamless supply transition and will also develop new markets and applications.
“RTP Company has been producing specialty TPV compounds for over 20 years,” said Scott Mumm, Strategic Accounts and Alliances at RTP Company. “We are excited about this opportunity to take over production of ExxonMobil Chemical’s nylon bondable Santoprene™ TPV products because their addition will expand our bondable TPE product line and give us a definite advantage by having the highest performance materials in the nylon bondable arena.”
The materials will be marketed by RTP Company as their RTP 6091 Series bondable thermoplastic elastomer compounds and will continue to use Santoprene™ TPV technology to provide the same property profile. “ExxonMobil Chemical has certified the products RTP Company is producing are equivalents to their materials,” added Mumm.
When overmolded, RTP 6091 Series compounds, offer excellent bond strength with rigid nylon substrates. They are available globally with hardness of 55 to 85 shore A and in natural, black, and custom colors. Nylon bondable TPV compounds offer superior thermal resistance (up to 275°F/135°C), excellent chemical resistance, and better compression properties than alternative styrenic-based nylon bondable TPE materials.
Ryton® PPS Introduces X Line of PPS alloys
Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (Chevron Phillips Chemical), owner of the broadest portfolio of PPS products and compounds worldwide, has announced that its Xtel® polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) alloy products will now be marketed under the Ryton® PPS brand name as XE or XK PPS alloys.
The goal of the brand change is to reduce confusion between the different Chevron Phillips Chemical PPS product lines and leverage the strength of the Ryton® PPS brand.
“For years, the Ryton® PPS brand has been recognized by customers as a trusted name for quality products because of its excellent chemical resistance, long term property retention and dimensional stability at high temperatures,” said Kyle Mathis, Engineering Polymers General Manager for Chevron Phillips Chemical. “Aligning all our PPS products under the same brand reinforces to customers the quality of our high performance XE and XK products.”
In addition to maintaining the chemical resistance, strength and thermal stability of traditional PPS compounds, Ryton® XE and XK PPS alloys offer higher ductility and toughness while expanding the processing options to include extrusion and blow molding.
Because of their unique characteristics, XE and XK PPS alloys are well-suited for use in a variety of applications including under-the-hood automotive connectors, residential water meters and irrigation valves, as well as energy storage and lithium battery components.
“Though the brand name is changing, the quality of our products is not,” said Mathis. “The existing XE and XK product nomenclature will remain the same, so customers interested in our former Xtel® PPS products need only watch for the X in the product name to know they’re getting an extra special product.”

BARCELONA, Spain, March 24, 2014 -Lubrizol Advanced Materials M.S. S.L. (FKA Merquinsa) announces it is expanding its presence in the Nordic TPU market by appointing Bjorn Thorsen as distributor for its Pearlthane®, Pearlcoat®, Pearlbond® and Pearlstick® thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) specialty elastomer resins. AEI expands its range of HFFR Compounds
AEI Compounds, a leading manufacturer of cable and wire compounds, has announced it will be expanding its range of crosslinkable and thermoplastic compounds for the cable and wire industry, at this year’s Wire 2014 exhibition in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Fire Survival Cables
Thermoplastic HFFR TP-0851 is a new ceramifiable HFFR sheathing compound for cables used in emergency alarm, communication and lighting circuits. The ceramifiable sheathing material forms a strong char during burning, providing enhanced cable fire protection and enables the cable to function in fire situations. When TP-0851 is used with silicone rubber insulated cores the most onerous fire performance specifications can be satisfied. Mica tapes are not used in such cables allowing improved cable production efficiency and faster cable termination performance. Cables have met the fire test requirements of BS EN 50200 for PH 120 and the enhanced BS 8434-2 with a 930°C flame and water spray with aluminium laminate tape screens. Considerable interest has been generated in Europe, the Middle East & Far East markets for this new generation compound.
Silane crosslinkable easy processable insulation for conduit & building wire cables
New compound SX-0612S is a silane crosslinkable HFFR insulation material complying with BS7211 & BS EN 50525-3-41:2011. SX-0612S processes at high production speeds, also is highly resistant to pre cure in extruders but is capable of crosslinking in ambient conditions
Silane crosslinked oil resistant HFFR compounds SX-0620
For railway, shipboard, oil & gas installations, crosslinked HFFR materials are now being specified for cable sheaths for an increasing number of projects. Compounds based on peroxide cure & e beam cure have been available for some time. A silane cured compound solution is now available which gives good oil resistance & good cable flexibility. SX-0620 meets IEC 60092-359 SHF2 and EN50264 EM104 and has very good abrasion resistance. We are also working towards a NEK606 version.
