  • AUMA electric actuators for Polish polypropylene

The new plant, which is known as the Metathesis project, represents a 100 million USD investment aimed at boosting PKN Orlen’s propylene production from 450,000 t/y to 550,000 t/y.
As well as the polypropylene plant itself, the project included the installation of a new fire protection system for the plant and an adjacent tank farm. 50 electric valve actuators from AUMA are installed in this system to manage the supply and distribution of extinguishing water in the case of a fire.
In 2017 and 2018 AUMA delivered the actuators for automating gate valves and butterfly valves. All the actuators were fitted with Modbus RTU communications. AUMA also supplied and commissioned four SIMA master stations to link the actuators with the main control system. Two of these units form the primary configuration, while the other two provide standby cover to ensure prime reliability. The SIMA system provides redundant control of the actuators in a loop topology.

  • Electric valve actuators improve tank farm logistics

AUMA’s scope of delivery includes the company’s proven SAEx explosion-proof multi-turn actuators equipped with intelligent ACExC actuator controls. Most of the actuators are fitted with AUMA gearboxes. AUMA has also supplied actuators with custom conversion kits for valves that were previously operated manually. All the actuators have been successfully integrated into a Profibus control network.
To enhance safety at the terminal, the actuators are equipped with hard-wired additional ESD inputs for emergency shutdown.
The Koole Tankstorage Minerals terminal plays a key role in storing and handling liquid cargo at the Port of Rotterdam. The company operates loading and unloading jetties linked by pipelines to 101 storage tanks that provide a total of 1,100,000 cubic meters of storage. Blending equipment is also connected. Products handled at the terminal include a wide range of biodiesel and petroleum products, including fuel additives.
