Exhibitors launching new products - Packaging Innovations

Pollard Boxes

A unique patented pack solution for luxury drinks will be one of the highlights of rigid box specialist Pollard Group’s stand (E36) at this year’s Packaging Innovations show at Olympia.

The new FOTL (Front Opening, Top Loading) box will be showcased alongside a wide range of high-quality and cost-effective presentation boxes that demonstrate Pollards’ ability to deliver bespoke packaging solutions across a variety of markets including drinks and beauty products, particularly for luxury and gift items.

In addition, the company will be demonstrating how its boxes can combine the need for premium image and on-shelf appeal in the luxury sector with the growing demand for more sustainable packaging.

The FOTL box enables a bottle to be placed automatically into the box from above. The innovation from Pollards was devised the meet the need for front opening boxes while providing production departments with a method of filling that was more efficient and less costly.  Previously bottles had to be placed into a front opening pack by hand, whereas the new box means they can now be filled on existing lines.

Sustainable pack solutions on display include the Pukka Herbs Organic Tea Selection Box, which is manufactured using 100% post-consumer waste cardboard and FSC-certified Kraft paper, litho printed using vegetable oil-based inks and incorporates a foil blocked logo that uses a new zero waste to landfill scheme.

Another example is the presentation packs created for the Experimental Perfume Club.  These are manufactured using only FSC-accredited materials and uncoated and varnished finishes, while internal fitments are predominantly made of paper with no plastic and minimal foam.  In addition, the strength of the boxes means that they do not require cellophane wrapping for additional protection, thereby removing unnecessary packaging waste.

Aegg

Aegg, the growing food and drink packaging company, will be showcasing its four extended glass food packaging ranges as well as its first UK warehouse facilities (which are due to open later this year) at its E8 Packaging Innovations stand at London Olympia on 11-12 September 2019.  The new additions to its glass food packaging ranges sit alongside Aegg’s existing recyclable plastic and glass pots and bowls, offering a wide choice of food packaging options to global food markets and visitors to the exhibition, whether it is for water, soft drinks, soups, sauces, vinegars & oils, preserves, spreads, fruit & vegetables, desserts or starters.  The four glass ranges include

1. glass jars and bottles for food

2. glass bottles for soft drinks, juices and soups

3. glass bottles for water

4. a table-presentable range

The company can also create bespoke glass items to meet customer specifications.  The new warehouse facilities, based near Eye in Suffolk, will soon house its glass food packaging ranges and have come about due to a big growth in demand for its glass offerings.  One warehouse comprising 60,000 sq feet (with the ability to be expanded) will also incorporate a food packaging manufacturing facility as part of phase 2.  £2.7 million is being invested in this new facility and will result in creating 50 new jobs.  This business expansion has been supported by New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership through the Growing Business Fund.

Aegg’s new facility will enable customers to take advantage of its expanded turnkey operations, from conceptual design, production, warehousing and logistics right through to delivery to the factory production line.  Being based in the UK, customers can also take advantage of Brexit-driven exchange rate changes as well as excellent transport links, with export customers also benefitting from its close proximity to Felixstowe port, Britain’s biggest and busiest container port.

Aegg’s managing director, Jamie Gorman, said “Over the last 2 years, there has been a huge upsurge in demand for our glass food packaging since the advent of the plastics debate.  We also showcased our original table-presentable and glass packaging ranges at Packaging Innovations earlier in 2019, which resulted in new opportunities arising from some of the bigger food and drink players in the market.  At September’s forthcoming Packaging Innovations, we will not only be showcasing our new additions to our glass food packaging ranges, but also our new UK warehousing facilities.”

Jamie went on to say “Although there is a shortage of glass packaging available in the marketplace at the moment, Aegg has worked hard with its suppliers to secure new volumes for its UK and global customers.  Aegg is also working with suppliers to create bespoke glass packaging items for its customers, including jars for jams and sauces and bottles for soft drinks, juices and water.  Although we have a continued successful history with plastic, we are envisioning our glass offering will grow to become 50% of our business this coming year. With our new units in Suffolk, expanding glass ranges and strong relationships with suppliers in place, we are ideally set up for further growth in our business, providing a robust, all-embracing and cost-effective service to both our UK and export customers.”

Aegg is a dedicated food and drink recyclable glass and plastics packaging company supplying pots, bowls, jars and bottles into global food and drink markets.  Aegg packaging can be found on premium shelves of major supermarkets and on airline meals and in foodservice outlets.  All Aegg’s packaging is manufactured at world class accredited production sites, in Europe and elsewhere across the globe.  The company will expand its offer through in-house production at its new UK manufacturing and warehouse site.   This development enables each packaging solution to be optimized for unit cost, production and delivery lead-times and technical expertise.   Aegg offers ‘off-the-shelf’ products as well as turnkey project management solutions. With its own in-house design team, customers can come to Aegg for their more bespoke or creative packaging needs.  The miniAegg service offers ‘off-the-shelf’ products in smaller quantities, from one box upwards, suitable for companies with restricted space or budgets or for larger companies wanting to conduct product trials.

Seufert

Will be launching PET Blue Ocean. Seufert has a clear mission, and with its new PET material, the company is making its contribution to the reduction of unused packaging material waste and to the conservation of the world’s oceans.

The new material, which has recently offered as a sustainable alternative to the standard PET for Seuferts clear packaging range on the market, is a bluish material with up to 100% recycled content in the central layer of its polyester material.

Despite the high proportion of recycled material, it does not appear inferior, nor does it make any sacrifices in quality or visual appearance. On the contrary, thanks to its bluish tint, the material conveys freshness and purity to the consumer, setting products in an attractive light at the POS.

The advantages also extend beyond the material’s looks: thanks to the not inconsiderable recycled waste from the pharmacy sector, it can be used without hesitation in the food and hygiene sectors, offering added value. In addition, a virgin PET-G outer layer also provides an optimal barrier to food contact.

A further advantage of this material is its price. Now we can really say:

‘Sustainability at no cost!’

Hunter Luxury

The Macallan Estate gift box

Hunter Luxury has produced a unique presentation box for The Macallan Estate, a new single malt containing rare spirit distilled with barley grown at Easter Elchies estate. The new release uses precious home-grown barley from the legendary Speyside region, previously limited to The Macallan’s most exclusive and sought-after releases.

The elegant gift box, produced by Hunter, embraces the estate’s character with landscape-inspired designs and a natural slate inlay, carrying recessed transcript lettering, to reflect the native stone found on the Easter Elchies estate. Inside, aerial photography showcases the estate’s impressive barley fields on the banks of the beautiful River Spey.

The Industry’s first ever natural slate and rigid box required Hunter to search for the right quarry to achieve the desired quality and finish. Every piece is hand-cut, unique and subject to extensive testing. The surrounding drawer-box was designed specifically to counter-balance the slate and uphold a seamless customer experience.

Hunter’s MD Mike Banister commented: “It’s a privilege and honour to work with a brand of such stature as The Macallan and deliver a brand experience as imaginative as this. It’s our most technical packaging project to date, requiring creativity and diligence to capture the brand’s peerless provenance and heritage.”

Priced at $250, The Macallan Estate is available from markets worldwide from June

Also on show will be Paptic.

Hunter is creating a genuine revolution in plastic film bags in conjunction with Paptic. Sourced from sustainable wood fibre, delivering the qualities of both paper and plastic, this looks to be a genuine game-changer for cosmetic, gifting and luxury shopping bags.

Plastic free, eco-friendly, sustainable, recyclable and compostable. Multi-use, versatile and strong with a lifespan up to 100 uses. Customisation with foiling, embossing and varnishing. Paptic has a soft luxurious texture and feel and is ideal for presentation with luxury brands: printing with flexo-printing, UV-ink jet, using commercial standard inks. Paptic also adapts to existing production lines: substrates are heat-sealable and can use the same glues as used for paper bags and luxury packaging.
