The city of Mechelen already assigned the Nekkerhal concession to event hall management company Artexis in June 2014, and now both parties have also agreed on the conditions. The consignment was clinched today with the signing of a lease.
“In Artexis, we found a good concessionaire for Nekkerhal. With Artexis’ expertise, Nekkerhal can become one of the most important party halls in Flanders,” according to Bart De Nijn, president of the Nekkerhal non-profit association.
It is not Artexis’ first time as a regional venue manager: it is also the operator of Antwerp Expo and Flanders Expo in Ghent. The organisation now manages 8 exhibition halls throughout Europe.
Artexis has major plans for Nekkerhal. Initially, it obviously aims to continue the cooperation with the existing organisation companies, but it also wants to achieve further development and optimisation where possible.
The aim is also to include Nekkerhal in the group’s strategy. “Visit the Future is our vision,” Artexis Easyfairs Benelux CEO Dirk Van Roy says. “We want to give our customers and visitors an idea of tomorrow’s world. Increasing the visitor experience is therefore one of our most important objectives.”
Artexis will also attract new business by increasing the range to cover ‘events’ in the broadest sense of the word. “In addition to traditional trade fairs, we will also attract organisers of product shows, staff parties, Christmas parties, etc. to Nekkerhal,” Dirk Van Roy continues. “This wider range of event formats will in turn increase the economic impact on the city of Mechelen and the surrounding region. The importance of this should not be underestimated.”
The lease starts on 15 January 2015.
The operational management is in the hands of Philippe Willegems, who is also responsible for Antwerp Expo already.
