  • New Device Column for muting systems

    Leuze electronic has designed a new Device Column which the pre-mounted Muting Sensor Sets, mounting arms with already integrated muting sensors, can be screwed onto in any height and with any alignment. The sets can also be connected easily to the MLD Light Beam Safety Devices via an internal local connection box.

    The UDC Device Columns enable simple and stable free-standing installation of Light Beam Safety Devices and Safety Light Curtains on the floor. A precise vertical and axial alignment of the safety sensor is an easy option. The spring elements in the permanently anchored foot of the columns ensure automatic resetting after mechanical impacts.
    The columns are the foundation for the new Light Beam Safety Device Sets from Leuze electronic. With these, access guarding both with 2- and 4-sensor muting in diverse protective heights can be implemented more quickly, easily and often more cost-effectively.
    All cables can be protected under neutral-colored covers and laid so they are not visible. Even the connector cap is pluggable, in case the transceiver with integrated muting indicator should not extend out of the column. The Light Beam Safety Device Sets, which can also include a control box, therefore fulfill the requirements for a modern, appealing and robust system design.

  • Universal and sturdy

    MLC is the intelligent Safety Light Curtain from Leuze electronic.

    Unlike other light curtains on the market, users do not only decide between a type 4 or type 2 (MLC 500 or MLC 300) device when choosing the MLC. With the MLC, users also have the choice between three function classes. This means users can define the per-formance of the sensor themselves in order to perfectly fulfill the requirements of their applications. The performance of the new Safety Light Curtains can be seen clearly in the automatic start/restart function of the Basic model and even more so in the integrated start/restart interlock and contactor monitoring functions of the Standard version. The high level of performance is the most obvious in the Extended device, however: it provides users with functions such as muting, blanking (fixed/floating), three scan modes and device linkage options, all which can be set without use of a PC.

    ((In the box:)) Integration – no problem!
    For all its performance, the sensor is unusually slim (29 x 35 mm) but extremely sturdy at the same time due to the slightly set back front screens, reinforced side walls and metal end caps. The installation of the MLC safety sensors is very easy due to the large variety of possible mounting brackets. Even direct, form-fitting mounting into the surroundings is possible, i.e. without dead space into which unpermitted access would be possible. Due to the extensive accessories, even for muting, the sensor is practically a complete system. ((End box))

  • LSIS 400i smart camera

    Innovative and High-Performance Camera Technology from Leuze electronic

    With the new LSIS 400i smart camera, Leuze electronic has developed a new, high-performance smart camera series characterized by unique features such as webConfig, motor-driven focus adjustment, homogeneous light design and a particularly powerful BLOB analysis. These features simplify integration for the user, offer flexibility in the application, a wide usage spectrum as well as high process reliability.

    Industrial image processing is used in the areas of quality assurance, object detection and position determination, for identification or for production process monitoring. Here, so-called smart cameras are fast and flexible solutions. They are powerful and can be integrated quickly and at low cost. In this market segment, the new LSIS 400i series developed by Leuze electronic represents the smart camera of the next generation.

    Full of innovation
    In the focus of image processing applications are topics such as illumination, flexibility during camera adjustment and the costs associated with integration. This includes mounting and alignment options as well as easy operation. Illumination, because it is a decisive performance-determining factor, is, thus, among the most important qualitative features of such systems. Instead of using conventional LEDs, Leuze electronic developed a new, innovative illumination system with special optics. It consists of eight rectangular segments fitted with precisely calculated, free-form shapes. As a result, each of the segments generates an extremely intense, rectangular light pattern that is particularly homogeneous in the range from 50 to
    250 mm.
    The illumination, like the camera technology, is enclosed in a robust metal housing and is protected by a glass window that is sealed airtight in accordance with protection class IP 65/67. The smart camera is equipped with a motor-driven focus adjustment that saves the user the need to manually set the focus on lot changes with different object distances. New test programs are loaded with the respective focus setting for the given camera distance, and the corresponding focus position is set by means of the motor-driven focus adjustment. An innovation that facilitates reproducible adjustments as well as improvements in quality and, particularly in applications with restricted installation space, one that results in a noticeable simplification.

    Another new feature, and one that considerably eases use of the smart camera system, is the integrated webConfig configuration interface. The configuration software, developed by Leuze and first used in the BCL 500i barcode readers, enables device configuration directly via a web browser. With the LSIS 400i, however, performance goes greatly beyond that of a "configuration tool". Here, the entire image processing software is integrated in the device. Fast and easy access to the device via an Ethernet interface ensures easy integration. The software does not need to be installed on the user's PC. It is 'on board', and can be accessed with a web browser. Should servicing be necessary, this means that all settings as well as an online help system, are available on-site in the device - at all times and wherever it may be located.

    With Leuze BLOB
    A decisive portion of the outstanding performance of the new LSIS 400i series lies with the BLOB (Binary Large OBject) analysis implemented by Leuze electronic. It is able to check considerably more characteristics than standard systems. For example, the ratio between area and circumference of a BLOB can be used to determine a shape factor that classifies its geometric shape. Furthermore, by checking the major and minor axes of a BLOB, the rotational position of an object can be determined. With this extremely high-performance BLOB analysis , the new generation of smart cameras can simply and reliably perform a wide range of tasks in completeness and presence inspections as well as in position detection. At the same time, outstanding innovations, such as the illumination system developed by Leuze electronic or motor-driven focus adjustment, satisfy the highest demands in reliability, efficiency and flexibility. With the integrated webConfig configuration interface, the new LSIS 400i smart camera is easy to implement and simple to operate.

  • CML 720 series measuring light curtains

    With the CML 720 series, Leuze electronic is launching a new generation of measuring light curtains onto the market.

    This light curtain with integrated display is characterized by a re-sponse time of 30 µs per beam, thereby detecting the fastest pro-cesses in all common industrial applications. With beam spacing of up to 5 mm only, even the smallest changes in dimension can be detected and fine positioning can be realized. Ranges of 6 m and measurement field lengths of up to 3 m enable the mea-surement of even large objects with maximum performance reserve. The display in the connection head makes a PC unnecessary during commissioning.
    An additional special feature is the very small dead zone when cascading several light curtains, as the CML 720 series features optional rear-side mounting of the connection head. This reduces the remaining dead zone to only 23 mm.

  • BCL 300i bar code reader

    The new modular BCL 300i bar code reader series is extended with a device model with oscillating mirror.

    With this new device model (figure 1), the possibilities for use are expanded considerably. The oscillating mirror deflects the scan line to both sides at a freely adjustable oscillation frequency. Equipped with a swivel angle of ±20° and a maximum oscillation frequency of up to 10 Hz, the bar code reader can now scan larger surfaces or spaces for bar codes. In addition to various interfaces and optics, the modularity of the BCL 300i bar code reader series (figure 2) also sets new standards regarding possible connection technology. Depending on the requirements, the user can choose between M12 connectors and terminal hoods with spring-loaded terminals or fixed connection cables.

  • BCL 300i bar code reader with Profinet interface

    The new BCL 300i series of modular bar code readers from Leuze electronic was expanded to include a device model with integrated Profinet interface.

    The BCL 348i bar code reader equipped with this interface can therefore be directly embedded into the Profinet network without additional software and configured via hardware configuration ("HW Config"). Furthermore, using an already integrated switch, a linearly structured network can be created. The new interface supports real time ("RT") communication and fulfills the requirements of Conformance Class B. The BCL 300i series is also available with an integrated Profibus interface. In addition to various interfaces and optics, the modularity of the BCL 300i series bar code readers also sets new standards regarding possible connection technology. Depending on the requirements, the user can choose between M12 connectors and terminal hoods with spring-loaded terminals or fixed connection cables. Thanks to this modularity, all electrical contacting variations according to individual customer needs are possible.

  • LES 36

    New sensor for both geometry data and position data

    With the LES 36, Leuze electronic now makes possible the simultaneous measurement of an object's height, width and position with just one sensor.

    Previously, two sensor pairs and complex software programming were typically necessary to accomplish this. Now, just a single LES 36 Line Edge Sensor suffices. This sensor does not operate using individual light spots. Instead, it projects a light beam by means of laser line lighting. Both the laser as well as the receiver are housed in a compact, easy-to-install unit. With the LES 36, the user has in his or her hands a balanced system for object measurement in the millimeter range. It offers an exceptionally large measurement range extending up to 800 mm in depth and up to 600 mm in width. Four measurement windows and 16, predefined, freely configurable inspection tasks facilitate flexible customization to applications without complicated programming. The preprocessed measurement values are output directly in millimeters via Ethernet, PROFIBUS or analog interface.

  • Contrast scanners in WASH-DOWN design

    Contrast scanners in WASH-DOWN design

    Wherever food, beverages, pharmaceutical products or even cosmetics are manufactured, processed or packaged, hygienic design has become a central requirement for machines and systems. Leuze electronic presents new, globally unique contrast scanners in WASH-DOWN design that withstand the increasingly necessary and more intensive cleaning and disinfection cycles.

    In addition to the contrast scanners of the 3B series, Leuze electronic has, with the KRT 55 contrast scanners, developed a scalable housing technology. Its V4A stainless steel housing makes this technology particularly well suited for areas that are intensively cleaned and disinfected. The new sensors fulfill the requirements of ECOLAB, IP67, IP69K and also the CleanProof+ standard defined by Leuze. Here, Leuze electronic extends the test range by including additional substances, testing at increased temperatures.
    With the KRT 55 contrast scanners, devices are available with two transmitter variants - RGB light and white light - that are characterized by extremely short response times of 50 µs and high repeatability. With regard to their configuration options, they also perform big. Here, IO-Link makes on-site configuration possible with unmatched simplicity and reproducibility. With the three teach processes: 2-point teach, static 1-point teach and dynamic 2-point teach, the optimum teach process is available for every type of machine use. Furthermore, the switching thresholds ascertained via teach-in can be changed during running operation with EasyTune. By means of this online switching-threshold correction, it is possible to quickly respond to changed process parameters without performing a new teach-in.
    One special feature is YellowBoost, a form of yellow support developed by Leuze with which contrast detection of the white-light contrast scanner is optimized. Although this affects all wavelengths, the improvement of the signal deviation is strongest in the yellow-light range, hence the name of the function.
    With IO-Link in combination with the EasyTune switching threshold correction and YellowBoost, Leuze electronic has implemented globally unique features in the unrivaled stainless steel contrast scanners.

  • Sensor Series 3B

    New functions in the 3B sensor series

    The functions of the 3B compact series from Leuze electronic have been extended to include the HRTR 3B-V and HRTL 3B reflection light scanners.

    In the 3B series from Leuze electronic, users will find the smallest reflection light scanners of this performance class with the widest range of functions in relation to the sensor size. It also includes versions HRTR 3B-V and HRTL 3B. Both are reflection light scanners with background suppression. The V in the designation of the new HRTR 3B-V sensors stands for so-called "V optics" that permit the detection of glossy, reflective or transparent objects. Also for the first time in this compact design, Leuze electronic is offering the HRTL 3B laser scanners – in both laser class 1 and 2, each with excellent scanning range limits of 400 or 500 mm. One special feature is the collimated light beam that allows the HRTL 3B laser scanners to be universally used with a practically constant switching behavior over the whole scanning area.
