In February 2018, the world woke up to the news that the World's first Plastic Free Aisle by A Plastic Planethad opened its doors in Ekoplaza, Amsterdam. The media attention was worldwide; from CNN to Al Jazeera, Washington Post, New York Times, BBC and Sky. The Plastic Free Aisle was created to be a catalyst for change; showing that we can package our food and drink plastic-free today, not in 5 years’ time. The Plastic Free Aisle was visited by royalty, CEOs of supermarkets and the Vice President of Europe. It has now been rolled out into each of the 74 Ekoplaza supermarkets; expanding from 640 SKUs to almost 2000.
For the first time, A Plastic Planet will be showcasing the Plastic Free Aisle in the UK at the Packaging Innovations Trade Fair. They will be displaying examples of the plastic free materials - from fresh produce salad bags and fruit nets to tea bags and coffee capsules, meat and cheese packaging to condiments and dairy. A Plastic Planet will also be showcasing the Plastic Free Consumer Trust Mark; the new front of pack symbol that instantly informs and empowers the customer at point of purchase, telling them just one thing - this packaging is plastic free.
A Plastic Planet is a non-profit social impact movement for change. They have one goal - to ignite and inspire the world to turn off the plastic tap. Their focus is on the dramatic reduction of the 40% of plastic produced currently used to package food and drink. Pro-business, open-source and collaborative, they work with international supermarkets and FMCG brands, representing the public interest. A Plastic Planet are also very active in lobbying Governments for policy change and legislation and have fast become the leading spokespeople of the plastic debate.
