  • CONTROMAT – Control sifting of bulk material

    FUCHS Maschinen AG offers a new solution for the control sifting of bulk material: the CONTROMAT VE 450 and VE 630 in square shape with various sifting capacities between 0,15 m² and 0,3 m².
    Up to now, the CONTROMAT used to be delivered without outlet for foreign particles. These particles remain on the sieve before being removed manually or by means of a suction nozzle. The new CONTROMAT version is rectangular and is provided with an outlet for oversized and foreign particles. It prevents unwanted agglomerates from remaining in the final product.
    The control sifter CONTROMAT is mainly used in the food, the chemical and the pharmaceutical industries.
    All product wetted parts are mainly of stainless steel (1.4301). Thanks to their modular building concept, individual sifter components can be easily adapted to the customer’s needs. Cleaning and replacing the sieve decks is extremely simple, as the CONTROMAT can be dismounted without tools. A further advantage of the CONTROMAT lies in the fact that it requires very little maintenance, limited to replacing the sieve gasket or the spring elements every couple of years. Optionally, the control sifter is also available in ATEX version.

  • GRANOMAT JP disk mill

    For the first time, FUCHS presents a disk mill of the type GRANOMAT JP manufactured in Japan.

    This mill is based on the stator-rotor principle with a fixed and a rotating disk, which allows milling or rubbing of the most various dry or wet products. The mill is able to process grains from 3 mm down to 10 μm using corresponding disks with a throughput of 1 to 3000 kg/h depending on the starting product, the grinding fineness and the machine type. At present, three machine sizes are available: GRANOMAT JP 150 (milling disk diameter DN 150), 250 (DN 250) and 360 (DN 360).

    The GRANOMAT JP can be used for instance for following applications:

  • MIXOMAT C-HE: Drum turner for highest requirements

    Every day, products based on various premixes are manufactured in the foodstuff processing industry requiring the use of reliable blenders. An in-ternationally active food company was again considering the acquisition of a drum turner. Various drum blenders were under discussion. The decision was however made in favour of the tiltable MIXOMAT C-HE manufactured by FUCHS Maschinen AG, Granges-Paccot.

    Why choosing a MIXOMAT C-HE among the numerous other blender types available on the market?
    The various drum tumbler applications using MIXOMAT type blenders in many food companies generated a great deal of extremely positive feedback. Users like their compact design, the fact that they are easy to use and handle the product very gen-tly. Another decisive aspect in favour of the MIXOMAT C-HE was the possibility to use 200 litre drums, which are easy to handle with their special holder providing for ergonomic and effortless work.

    The MIXOMAT C-HE is used to blend powdery products (premixes) with a grain size of less than 300 µm. The blender has a capacity of approximatively 60 kg, the fat content of the easy flowing to more rigid products is between 10 and 12 %. Some 25 batches can be blended in one week, the blending being carried out in a drying room.

    The raw products are delivered to the drum blender site, weighed manually by the operator and then supplied to the PLC controlled blender. Starting and stopping the blending process, lifting and lowering the drum as well as setting the blending time and the speed of the drum can easily be done by means of the easy-to-use touchscreen. Up to 18 recipes can be selected with their blending time and rotational speeds for the drum. The blending process is easy to describe: the blending drum is filled to a maximum of 70 % of its capacity and rotated around its own axes during a preselected blending time. Because the blending drum is mounted at an inclined position on the drum holder, the blending effect is three-dimensional. An additional baffle mounted under the cover accelerates the blending process. Blending is carried out gently and free of residuals. After blending, the product can be delivered in batches to a large blender for further processing.

    For safety reasons a very easy to use and well-proven HT-type holder with quick-action clamping fastener preventing any undesired opening during the blending pro-cess has been fitted to the machine.

    Conclusion
    Given these factors and the fact that the highly reliable MIXOMAT tumbling drum blender manufactured by FUCHS is used all over the world by the company, it was once again natural to work with a drum blender of the MIXOMAT C-HE type.
    The MIXOMAT C-HE is the ideal machine for most demanding jobs. It is supplied with a tiltable, sealed shaft and a closed housing. By processing in a closed environment, the MIXOMAT C-HE can meet the highest standards of hygiene and hence is also good for cleanroom applications.

    Optimal control sifting of plastic granules with the SIFTOMAT plansifter
    Sifting plastic granules and especially master batches aims to separate granules that are too big, so-called longs, and grains that are too fine, from the "good" product. The sifting process tends to increase the quality of the granule in order to sell it easier or at a better price.
    Nevertheless, sifting is not a very simple process and a thorough analysis of the problem was required, as well as a high number of trials until theory could be converted into practice in order to achieve the desired result.

    The problem
    The sifting problem lies in the fact that plastic granules do not behave in the same manner as many other materials. In fact, most of the sifting machines do not operate in a satisfactory way when used for sifting plastic granules. The problem is that granules, which are too long and which should be sifted out, remain with the desired end product. The reason is that the sifting surface is too big, or that the selected sifting technique is inadequate. Often both reasons apply.
    In most cases, the bigger the sifting surface, the higher the quality or the throughput of the sifted material. However this will not be the case, when plastic granules, which are too long, are sifted out. The reason for this being that with increased sifting surface, the probability of having a too "long" granule falling vertically through a "hole" in the sieve increases. In addition to this, by using inappropriate sifting techniques (for instance a vibrating sieve), these granules will increasingly "jump", into a vertical position and fall through a hole of the sieve.
    By trying hard to fully understand the problem, FUCHS Machines Ltd discovered the following facts (as the sifting of fine products is unproblematic, we shall only mention the sifting of coarse particles):
    1. If possible, the thickness of the product-layer should be constant on the whole surface of the sieve at the start of the sifting process (in this case a perforated plate) and in the order of 2 to 5 cm. It is then possible to avoid long granules getting into a vertical position and falling through a hole.
    2. The thickness of the layer should ideally remain constant throughout the whole sifting process. If this cannot be guaranteed, for instance with long sifting surfaces, some of the granules will show a tendency for jumping over the remaining surface in a non controlled manner, increasing the probability of having vertically positioned granules falling through a hole in the sieve. The sifting surface should therefore not be too big and well adapted to the corresponding throughput of the sieve.
    3. The sieve movement should not contain vertical components. These would only exacerbate the "jumping effect".
    4. The frequency of the sieve movement should be as low as possible. It is a fact that the best sifting results are obtained with low-speed sieve movements and the "jumping effect" of the granules gets worse with increasing frequency. Nevertheless, a certain movement is necessary to guaranty the conveying of the sifting material, especially on the "fine" sieve.

    The solution
    By taking these findings into account, it became clear that the FUCHS SIFTOMAT plansifter offers the best possible conditions for sifting plastic granules, as the sifting movement has no vertical component. Additionally, the rectangular shape of the sifter has the advantage that compared to circular units, the sifting width does not increase during the process. Additionally, FUCHS subdivides the sifting surface, the perforated plate, into several segments with perforated and imperforated plates. Thus, it is possible to adjust the surface of the perforated plates to the required capacity by inserting only as many perforated segments as necessary. The rest of the segments are imperforated and sieve surfaces that are too large can be avoided.
    The frequency of the plane circular sifter movement is kept as low as possible, without interfering with the conveying of the material to be sifted. The low frequency accelerates the process and prevents the long granules from getting into a vertical position and falling through the holes into the "good" products. By using a frequency converter the process can be adapted to the specific requirements and optimised.
    The slope of the sieve can also be adapted. For high throughputs requiring a fast transport of the material to be sieved, the slope of the sieve can be increased.
    Additionally, the sieve case and the sieves are modularly built. For cleaning the sieve case and changing the sieves, for instance in order to process other plastic granules, the sieves and the spacer frames can be removed and replaced very easily.
    The SIFTOMAT plansifter is the result of a long development process based on the above described findings. It is used in the plastics industry and can be customised.
    Final remarks
    Trials in FUCHS's own laboratories as well as with well-known leading producers of granules have led to highly convincing results. It has been proven that the FUCHS SIFTOMAT is the most effective sifter for plastic granules among all vibratory or circular sifters.

    MIXOMAT drum blenders by FUCHS Maschinen AG have been used by renowned firms all over the world. The chemical, food and pharmaceutical industry use them for blending or pre-blending bulk products. Most of the bulk products, whether powder or granules, but at least free-flowing, are easily blended.
    The way in which the blenders work is simple: after having filled the blender drum with no more than 70 % of its capacity, the drum is tilted around its own axis for a preselected period if time (for most products, between 5 and 10 minutes). As the blenders drum is mounted at an inclined position on its holder, a three-dimensional blending effect is achieved. Additionally, the blending process can be accelerated by fixing a baffle onto the drum cover. Users find this blending process very effective – despite or perhaps precisely because of its simplicity. The SP holder is fitted with two Spanset belts and can best be used with drums of varying diameter (+/- 5 mm). The MIXOMAT C-SE can also be fitted with a second holder for drums with capacities of up to 50 litres.

    The MIXOMAT C-SE is made of stainless steel with ground surfaces. The modular concept will shortly include an ATEX blender version on wheels for zones 2/22 or 1/21.

    Conclusion: the MIXOMAT C-SE is simple to use and offers a wide range of accessories, guaranties a gentle blending of the product, resource friendly cleaning and easy maintenance in accordance with worker's protection standards.

    As a standard, the MIXOMAT blenders are available with 3 to 400 litres drums. For these blending capacities, Fuchs Maschinen AG supplies a range of stainless steel or plastic drums. However, the customer is free to use his own blending drums. The maximum working load of the MIXOMAT blenders is currently 800 kg. All MIXOMAT blenders may be supplied in stainless steel with the corresponding surface polishing.
    All MIXOMAT blenders can be fitted for clean room applications just by selecting the corresponding surface but without any design change.

    MIXOMAT drum blenders are clean room compatible and perfectly suitable for use in the pharmaceutical industry (hygiene-sensitive areas).

    The entire range of MIXOMAT blenders is based on a modular concept and also in-cludes mobile versions. Most of the blenders can be supplied for ATEX zone 2/22 or 1/21 applications. Customised versions may also be supplied.

  • SIFTOMAT - the universal plansifter

    The SIFTOMAT plansifter manufactured by FUCHS AG, is a highly versatile plansifter solving most of the sifting problems such as sizing, dedusting and controlling.

    Typical SIFTOMAT applications are: control sifting stuff before conditioning, simultaneous dedusting and control sifting of bulk products, grain size separation in up to 4 fractions in one pass, precision sifting of "longs" and "twins" of plastics granulates to name but a few.

    The advantages of the SIFTOMAT are: precise, ex-tremely gentle sifting, high sifting capacity per square meter of sieve, easy replacement of the sieve screens by a single person, quiet operation, almost without vi-bration, easy to clean, optimal hygiene, easy to main-tain and extremely low maintenance costs.

    The SIFTOMAT plansifter is normally delivered in an enclosed version, non-dusty bulk products can be treated on the same machine but without its enclosure.

    The SIFTOMAT is available in seven different sizes with sieve screens ranging from 400 x 800 mm to 960 x 1840 mm, this with the possibility of customising the position and diameter of the in- and outlets.

    Furthermore, it is possible to fit the plansifter with up to three sieves (for four fractions) with various mesh sizes. Sifters with medium or large mesh can be fitted with a rubber balls sieve cleaning system especially when treating tricky products which tend to clog up the sieves.The innovatively designed and patented ultrasonic sieve cleaning system manufactured by FUCHS Maschinen AG additionally vibrates the sieves at an infrasonic frequency. This innovative and by FUCHS patented process, operates at frequencies varying constantly between 30 and 38 kHz, and has proven to be extremely efficient when processing fine powders combined with fine mesh sieves of less than 300 μm.
    This process prevents the sifter sieve from clogging up and increases the sifter throughput.

    The sifters can of course be made entirely from stainless steel for pharmaceutical applications.

  • Blenders, sifters and mills supplied by the specialist Fuchs Maschinen AG, Granges-Paccot

    MIXOMAT type drum blenders manufactured by FUCHS Maschinen AG, in Granges-Paccot (Switzerland), have been used worldwide for many years and with great success by the most established users in the chemical, food and pharmaceutical industries for the blending and pre-mixing of bulk products. Most of these products, whether in powder or granulates but at least free-flowing, are easily blended.

    The way in which the blenders work is very simple to explain: after having filled the blender drum with no more than 70 % of its capacity the drum is tilted around its own axis for a preselected period if time (for most products, between 5 and 10 minutes). As the blenders drum is mounted at an inclined position on its holder, a three-dimensional blending effect is achieved. Additionally, the blending process can be accelerated by fixing a baffle onto the drum cover. Users find this blending process very effective – despite or perhaps precisely because of its simplicity. Unlike many other blending techniques, the blending is carried out without leaving trace residues. By using the free fall, the product is very gently processed.
    As a standard, the MIXOMAT blenders are available with 3 to 400 litres drums. For these blending capacities, Fuchs Maschinen AG supplies a range of stainless steel or plastic drums. The customer is, however, free to use his own blending drums. Please contact us for blending products outside of the above-mentioned capacity range. The maximum working load of the MIXOMAT blenders is currently 800 kg.

    All MIXOMAT type drum blenders are cost-effectively lacquered but can also be sup-plied in stainless steel with corresponding surface grinding. Requiring no change in their design, all MIXOMAT blenders can be used for clean room applications, for instance as required in the pharmaceutical industry, simply by selecting the appropriate surface fin-ish.


    The entire range of MIXOMAT blenders is based on a modular concept and also includes mobile versions. Most of the blenders can be supplied for ATEX zone 2/22 or 1/21 appli-cations. Customised versions may also be supplied.

    The tilting drum blender MIXOMAT C handles drums of 100 to 400 litres. It can be manually or electrically tilted (MIXOMAT CE) or electrically tilted and fitted with a touch screen (MIXOMAT CMe).
    Both types can lift drums from pallets or from another drum transport device to the pro-cessing level.

    The hitherto most successful and best-selling MIXOMAT CM with hand crank has been replaced by the MIXOMAT CMe with electrical linear actuator and touch screen.
    The way in which the MIXOMAT CMe blender works is very simple to explain: The mixing drum is transported on a pallet or a drum transport device to the blender and placed into its holder, which is closed with a few hand movements. The drum is lifted into its blending position by pressing a button. At a given preset speed, the drum is turned upside down to mix its content. The approximately 15° inclined drum generates a 3D mixing effect having a positive impact on the blending result and time. Moreover, the drum is fitted with a special, highly effective and easy to clean baffle fixed to the container cover, which secures a quick homogenised blend of the product.

    The MIXOMAT CMe includes a control unit with a touch screen with the following functions: Start, stop, lifting, depositing and slowly tilting the drum, setting the blending time and rotation speed, preprogramming and selecting recipes, lan-guage selection (English, German and French are standard).

    The following two holders can be supplied and are very easy to use:
     the HRK holder which is very simple to use and secured by a quick-action clamp-ing fastener that prevents it from unexpectedly springing open,



     the SP holder with two SpanSet belts is used to secure the drum onto the holder. This inexpensive solution is ideal when only a few blendings are carried per day or week.

    The MIXOMAT CMe can also be fitted with a second holder for drums of up to 50 litres.

    The MIXOMAT drum blenders have a significant advantage over other drum blenders: they are GMP-compliant, their cleaning is unproblematic as only the blending drum, its cover and eventually its baffle are in contact with the blended product, the cleaning of which is very easy by design. The blending drums are also interchangeable. In many ap-plications they require no cleaning after each blending operation when using one drum per product. A further advantage of the MIXOMAT blender lies in the fact that they require only low maintenance.

    Currently, the wide range of accessories available for the MIXOMAT drum blender includes stainless steel and plastic drums, funnels with valves for drum or container emp-tying, drum trolleys for transport, standard protection cages, pneumatic drum filling and emptying systems, drum cleaning systems, etc.

    The SIFTOMAT plansifter is a versatile machine solving most of the sifting problems, such as sizing, dedusting and control sifting. Its typical application fields are among oth-ers: control sifting of food or pharmaceutical products before packaging, simultaneous dedusting and control sifting of bulk products. The SIFTOMAT plansifter carries out a horizontal eccentric sifting movement.
    This sifter features a high throughput per m² and secures a precise and gentle blending.
    Other advantages include easy cleaning and long operating life. Seven standard sieve sizes are available, ranging from 400 x 800 mm to 960 x 1840 mm. The motor power ranges from 0,37 to 1,1 kW. Up to three sieves can be mounted on top of one another and an ATEX version for zones 1/21 and 2/22 is also available.


    The GRANOMAT toothed disk mill is used to crush any larger components that may be present prior to milling. Then the product passes through the milling disks, the first fixed to the cover acting as the stator, the second, the rotor, being in the mill housing. The di-mensions of the radially positioned teeth decrease towards the outer part of the milling chamber. At any time, the milling fineness can be adjusted during the milling process. Hourly throughputs of 200 to 500 kg can be achieved depending on the product and the grinding fineness.
