    • Continental connects its tyre pressure monitoring system ContiPressureCheck™ with the award-winning telematics of lOSTnFOUND

    • Focus: more safety, reduced CO2 emissions and greater economic efficiency due to networked tyres

Dietikon and Adliswil (Switzerland), 1 March 2016 - Networking at a worldwide level is making continuous progress in many areas of our lives. Two leading companies on the commercial vehicle market, Continental and LOSTnFOUND have joined forces in a strategic co-operation with the aim of promoting safety and economic efficiency in the market.

Safety, reduced CO2 emissions and greater economic efficiency
Constantly measuring the pressure and temperature levels of tyres does not only result in better safety, but it also increases the economic efficiency of fleets. During trials performed on a test track belonging to premium tyre manufacturer Continental, measurements concluded that over the course of 100 kilometres, fuel consumption rises by 0.7 litres due to air pressure being 2 bar less than it should be. Looking at the other side of that argument, this means vehicles that are continually underway with the right amount of air pressure save on fuel and produce less CO2. According to a study carried out by Dekra, saving three litres of diesel over the course of 100 km corresponds to an average annual CO2 saving of 11,255 kg per truck-trailer combination.

Tyre pressure as a part of networked telematics
A focus on environmental awareness and road safety is key for Continental Suisse SA, which provides tyre dealers and industrial partners with economic solutions. In collaboration with the Swiss telematics experts firm LOSTnFOUND, Continental Suisse SA combines the expertise of both companies under the term ConnectedTyre in order to connect commercial vehicle tyres to the Internet of Things (IoT).
As a pioneer in cost-efficient and innovative telematics LOSTnFOUND complement Continental’s offer to companies that require an efficient and economic solution to monitoring tyre pressures.
Daniel Thommen, managing director of LOSTnFOUND, states, “With this collaboration we will make the process of tyre pressure monitoring more transparent as we are able to send emails or text messages immediately to fleet managers or drivers if, for example, there is a change in tyre pressure or tyre temperature. As a consequence, costly and time consuming breakdowns can be prevented."

Lower costs and higher safety and De-Minimis approved
The introduction of a networked tyre pressure monitoring system not only effectively reduces the number of tyre defects due to breakdowns but also facilitates the technical monitoring of the tyres, therefore increasing the safety of both the driver and vehicle.

Roland Kunz from Continental states, “Considering the fact that every truck that you see on the road today is driving with 12 percent less tyre pressure on average than required, which can lead to 700 Euros in additional costs for a semitrailer per year. The savings achieved with ContiPressureCheck™ in combination with the telematics of LOSTnFOUND enable the break-even point to be met within just a few months.”

Since both the ContiPressureCheck™ system as well as the LOSTnFOUND telematics system including the respective installation are "de minimis" eligible, additional savings can be made. Further benefits can be achieved by keeping the correct tyre pressure including reduced rolling resistance, lower fuel consumption, increased mileage performance as well as improved retreadability.

Continental Commercial Vehicle Tire is one of the worlds' biggest manufacturers of truck, bus, and special tires. The business unit is continually evolving from that of a purely tire manufacturing business to a solutions provider with a broad range of products, services, and solutions for commercial vehicle tires.
