The German company Eggelbusch took up those considerations before they decided to go for a very special packaging solution for their new ChickUp’s line: The Schur®Star Shape Bag - an exceptional solution, convenient on the go and practical in consumption.
Unique packaging contributes to the brand loyalty
The new ChickUp’s line includes, until further notice, four products which are sold in the Schur®Star Shape profile. Eggelbusch went for a colorful design to emphasize the savory and full-bodied taste. This together with the stand-up bag construction ensures attention at POS. The bag material is based on a laminate construction and offers in combination with an incorporated zipper the requested convenience. All these elements contribute to a higher brand loyalty. As an additional feature, the bags are equipped with a functional euro hole for suspension, giving the options of presenting the bag differently at POS.
Eggelbusch is known for its smoky-savory summer sausage from Westphalia
The Eggelbusch brand has existed since the 1930’s. Ever since they have been producing smoky-savory summer sausage – for the pleasure of consumers around the world. With the new ChickUp’s line, based on 100% corn-fed chicken, Eggelbusch caters for on-the-go snacking, leaving its competitors behind. The new packaging solution has been in preparation for some time, especially the packaging process under protective atmosphere which was tested extensively and adjusted until the optimal solution was found. The high-quality ingredients, the excellent taste and the new packaging design arouse high expectations of the new product line at Eggelbusch.
The Schur®Star Concept – it won’t be more flexible
The key elements of the Schur®Star Concept are maximum flexibility and reduced complexity. With the Schur®Star Packaging Machine and the pre-made Schur®Star Bags, which are linked together on a unique string, a smooth packing process is ensured. The Schur®Star bags are customized and meet product-specific requirements. The Schur®Star Packaging Machine allows for a quick and easy exchange between different bag constructions and sizes. A change-over between manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic filling can be carried out just as quickly. The machine can easily be incorporated into an existing production line and likewise be combined with additional equipment – for example weighing, labelling and product treatment by gas flushing. The pack to complement a superior selection
When British chocolatier Hardys was looking for a pack to complement the superior chocolate selection, they wanted a pack design as remarkable as the products themselves - a solution to elevate customer perception and with a gift-wrapped look. Numerous windowed cartons were sampled, but nothing compared to the Schur®Star Box Bag. “We chose the Schur®Star Box Bag as it exclusively makes a pack with three different substrates. We chose a solution with a window, made of a laminate on three sides and the two side gussets in a metallized film. The latter adds a stylish finish to our print design”, says Daniel Brower, MD of Hardys.

The box-shaped bottom construction allows Schur®Star Box Bag to stand completely stable, irrespective of weight and contents. No matter whether displayed upright or lying, the bag – being printable on all five sides – offers excellent opportunities of a visually striking look. Superior flexographic printing offers additional differentiation options. The characteristic bottom construction is combinable with a large range of features: A window to give a glimpse of the contents, a zipper to offer reclosability, tearstrip and laserscoring to ease opening – to mention a few. In this case, the combination with a carton header gives an exclusive and stylish pack, prominently different.

Hardys offers high-end confectionery in a variety of pack formats printed with iconic attractions of the surrounding area. Whilst Hardys’ offering satisfies consumers wishing to enjoy a treat on the go, the company is equally focused on providing a high-end range for gifting. Hardys chose to make the pack content specific with embossed header cards – as this combination facilitates an extensive range with significantly reduced pre-press costs. The metallized side gussets add an extra dimension to the prominent appearance.
Designs for exclusive retailers in the pipeline
The Schur®Star bag range is constantly expanded with innovative constructions. Many packaging solutions look alike and are often not possible to stand out on the shelf. This also goes for barbeque sausages, which are commonly marketed in flow packs. However, the Lithells brand, deservedly known as Sweden’s primary sausage expert, is now introducing a line of barbeque sausages in a new packaging solution from Schur®Star Systems. With this introduction the brand takes the decisive step out of anonymity. The new design ensures the attention that quality products deserve and makes the products stand out from the competition.
The packaging solution supports brand loyalty
The new solution comprises four products marketed in Schur®Star Stand-up Bags. They are flexo-printed with a special paper-feel varnish giving a rustic paper bag effect; the print design communicates fire, charcoal and rich tasty products. The stand-up bags have a window allowing a glimpse of its fresh contents. This new exciting format exposes the products on the supermarket shelf and attracts customers in the crucial moment of purchase. With the carrier handle the consumer conveniently carries the products home or directly to the garden for a barbecue. A reclosable zipper is included to enhance freshness, increase shelf life and reduce waste - All are key elements that support brand loyalty.
Lithells is Sweden’s primary sausage expert
The Lithells brand goes back to 1907, and in view of its history and its market position it deserves to be called Sweden’s primary sausage expert. Produced in Sweden’s largest sausage factory, the brand was in 1997 taken over by Atria but this never affected the superior quality nor the drive for innovation. The new line has been in the pipeline for quite some time; extensive tests were made in the controlled atmosphere filling process and have been adjusted to the perfect result. With the high meat contents, the excellent taste of the sausages, the improved shelf life, and the new Schur®Star Stand-up Bag design, Atria has high expectations for the new Lithells line. Recent feedback from retailers as well as consumers has been extremely positive.

Kelsen Group - world famous for notable brands like Kjeldsens, Royal Dansk and Pepperidge Farm - is of course aware of what role the packaging plays in the sales process. Kelsen Group was established in 1933 as a small family bakery in the heart of Danish Jutland. Today the Group is a subsidiary of the American food group Campbell Soup Company, and over the last years Kelsen Group has experienced tremendous growth. Commercially, Kelsen Group is responsible for a large portfolio of products in Europe, Middle East and Africa. The production of butter cookies takes place in two modern bakeries – also including the production for the Asian and the American markets. In Denmark, Kelsen employs a staff of 400, who annually produce and market 25,000 tons of cookies. Optimized packaging solution for exclusive cookies
For the European market, Kelsen Group produces The Pepperidge Farm line in the Danish Ribe factory. Presently the line comprises five varieties. Kelsen Group and Pepperidge Farm have collaborated with Schur®Star Systems on redesigning and optimizing the packaging solution for these exclusive cookies – and the result was a design based on the Schur®Star Box bag.
An exclusive product must be kept and protected optimally in its packaging. The delicious cookies are carefully placed in paper cups, these are placed in protective carton inserts and packed into the bag. The paper laminate combination ensures that the bag remains airtight, and the application of paper makes it easy to fold the bag top effectively to keep the delicious cookies crunchy during storage.
The Schur®Star Box Bag
Due to its many advantages, the Schur®Star Box Bag gains ground for a growing number of product groups: Its box-shaped bottom makes the bag stand completely stable on the shelf, irrespective of weight and contents. Being printable on front, reverse, sides and bottom, the bag offers excellent opportunities to enhance the product's profile, no matter whether the product is displayed in upright or lying position on the supermarket shelf. Superior quality flexographic printing in up to 10 colours, including effects like e.g. high-gloss lacquer, matte lacquer, or metallized inks give additional differentiation options. Additional features like a window in the bag gives the consumer a glimpse of the contents; a zipper offers reclosability, and e.g. tearstrips and laserscoring ease the opening. Compared to traditional cookie packaging solutions, the construction is cost effective, as highest possible filling capacity is achieved at a minimum of material consumption.
