Design for Intended Use (DIU) - NVC Netherlands Packaging Centre

Wednesday April 3 - 10:30 am - 12 pm

The recycling of plastic is one of the main topics that plays a central role at Empack 2019. In collaboration with NRK, led by Kris Callaert, this topic is extensively discussed in the form of a mini conference on 'Recycled plastics for food contact materials'.

Four experts share the latest developments in the area of recyclable materials that can be used for packaging in the food industry. Which legislation is involved? What do you have to take into account when testing these materials? Is it still food safe when you use recycled plastic packaging material for the food industry?

These pressing questions are dealt with during this conference where practical tools are given to get started immediately. After this conference there will be a panel discussion during which the public will also be actively involved.

‘Resource: Choose innovative, biobased & circular’ - PEFC Nederland

Wednesday April 3 - 2 pm - 3:30 pm

The European Commission wants to speed up the transition to a more circular economy. This offers opportunities for companies with bio-based materials and durable innovations. It also is in line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 'responsible consumption and production'.

One of the steps the Commission has taken to accelerate towards a circular economy is the ban on 10 disposable plastic products for single use end of last year. Think of disposable products such as cotton swabs, cutlery, plates, straws, stirring rods and balloon sticks. From now on, these can only be manufactured from sustainable materials. This offers opportunities for companies that work with bio-based and sustainable materials to find innovative solutions.

Recyclecheck - KIDV

Thursday April 4 - 2 pm - 3:30 pm

During the morning, from 10 am to 11:30 am various speakers will discuss the topic Recycling. KIDV itself delves deeper into the Recycle Check. This check gives the packaging industry direct insight into the extent to which a package is recyclable. Either a very practical way to gain insight, but also to obtain packaging advice to consider more sustainable alternatives.
