  • The New U1KT001 Ultrasonic Reflex Sensor with IO-Link

    No larger than the enter key on a PC keyboard, the U1KT001 ultrasonic reflex sensor is distinguished by a large range of 400 millimeters. Two independent switching outputs can be taught in via teach-in or IO-Link in order to detect liquids, as well as dark, transparent or reflective objects at any two switching points. These make it possible to precisely monitor minimum and maximum values when measuring fill-levels, distances and stack heights – even where interference factors prevail such as ambient light, fog or dust.

    And the range of possible applications is extensive: from fill-level measurement for liquids and bulk goods or slack monitoring for feeding material to printing and packaging systems, right on up to checking stack heights in storage systems – numerous complex measuring tasks can be easily automated thanks to technical ingenuity.

    IO-Link and Intuitive Teach-In Make the U1KT001 Smart
    Sensor parameters can be conveniently configured and diagnostics data can be read out via the IO-Link interface. Thanks to the data storage function, saved settings can be easily duplicated at other sensors.
    The two switching outputs can be set up in just a few seconds – even without any product knowledge – with the help of the intuitive teach-in instructions on the back of the sensor. A lock function for the teach-in key prevents inadvertent changes to the settings. The U1KT001 ultrasonic reflex sensor is also equipped with integrated temperature compensation which offsets fluctuating ambient temperatures in order to assure constant, highly precise measured values. LEDs, visible all the way around, indicate the status of power supply and the two digital switching outputs. The second sensor output can be used alternatively as an diagnosis output.

    Three Modes for Diverse Applications
    The new ultrasonic sensor is equipped with three different operating modes: up to 40 sensors can be operated at the same time in the synchronous mode, which is absolutely essential for the scanning of large surfaces. Up to 16 sensors can alternately emit pulses in the multiplex mode, because they don’t influence each other. This is especially advantageous where only minimal space is available. The through-beam operating mode is the ideal option for applications in which high switching frequencies and a large working range are required. In this case, two sensors (one emitter and one receiver) are arranged directly opposite each other or at an angle.

    New Code Scanner from wenglor: Scanning Without Software
    Stationary 1D/2D Code Scanners C5KC and C5PC

    Unpack, plug in and you’re ready to scan: wenglor’s new series C5KC and C5PC 1D/2D stationary code scanners make time-consuming software installation and configuration superfluous. Auto-setup, auto-focus and newly developed decoding algorithms automatically provide for outstanding reading performance against almost any background.
    Scan settings can be accessed via the intuitively laid out user interface of the wenglor WebLink for optimized reading of damaged and high-resolution codes. They boast the smallest available format for 1D/2D code scanners which makes them ideal for use in extremely compact machines and, thanks to a reading speed of 60 scans per second, they’re well-suited for applications with high throughput rates too.

    Competence for Industry 4.0
    Thanks to their integrated Ethernet port, the sensors are the perfect solution for customer requirements in the field of Industry 4.0: “Already today, the C5KC and C5PC scanner series are helping to transform the omnipresent vision of Industry 4.0 into reality”, explains wenglor product manager Stefan Winkler. “From scanner setup and the browser-based application solution, right on up to data read-out via Industrial Ethernet, these sensors unite all of the distinguishing factors of an intelligent smart machine.”

    All Codes on All Surfaces
    The diverse range of applications covered by the 1D/2D code scanners includes, amongst others, product identification and traceability, checking for completeness and quality inspection of 1D/2D barcodes and reading of all common 1D/2D codes (Code 128, UPC/EAN, DotCode, QR and DataMatrix), as well as scanning of 1D/2D barcodes on all surfaces such as PCBs, metal and pallets. Even laser printed and needle punched data-matrix codes are no problem for the new scanner series.
    With their extensive scope of capabilities and functions, these scanners are predestined for the automotive industry, the pharmaceuticals and foods industries, as well as the packaging and electronics industries where numerous track and trace tasks are part of the daily routine.

  • wenglor Presents New Fluid Sensors for Flow Rate and Temperature

    weFlux² from wenglor is the new generation of high-performance, compact Fluid Sensors which unites electronics and analysis module in a single housing. A patented measuring method determines the flow velocities as well as the temperatures of liquid media – regardless of position and direction of flow. The combination of two measuring functions in a single sensor reduces the number of measuring points in closed systems by 50% and minimizes installation, service and inventory costs.

    wenglor’s new sensors are based on a patented measuring method in accordance with the calorimetric principle. Thermal differences are measured in flowing media and are converted to physical quantities such as flow velocity and temperature. The measurement results of most common sensors provide just one value – not so with the new weFlux² generation which measures flow velocity and temperature simultaneously with a single sensor, regardless of the medium’s direction of flow. And installation in any desired position assures greatest possible flexibility with regard to system layout. The maintenance-free, non-wearing sensors offer tremendous pressure resistance with values of up to 100 bar. In order to be able to deliver precise measurement results in hygienically sensitive environments at temperatures ranging from -25 to +80° C, the FDA-compliant housing made of 316L stainless steel is not equipped with a display.

    Intelligent Fluid Sensor for the Smart Factory
    Thanks to wTeach2 software, weFlux² sensors can be conveniently configured via the integrated IO-Link interface – without any IO-Link software tools or further previous knowledge. The analysis of measurement and diagnostics data ensures high levels of system availability, in addition to which the sensors’ switching points can be adjusted individually in diagrams. Furthermore, existing data records can be transferred automatically to new products.

For example, weFlux² flow sensors are responsible for monitoring coolant water at welding robots in the automotive industry.   • Innovation in 3D

    wenglor Presents the New weCat3D Sensor Generation for 3-Dimensional Object Measurement.
    Well-developed instincts and sharply tuned senses are necessary in order to accurately measure objects 3 dimensionally – a skill reserved strictly for people and animals until recently. For the first time ever, wenglor is succeeding in scanning and evaluating objects in 3 dimensions with its broad range of weCat3D Profile Sensors. The profile data collected by the sensors can either be read out directly as measured values or used for rapid further processing of the point cloud.

    3D calculation of volume is of great significance in particular in the food industry, but in many other industries too such as machinery manufacturing, woodworking and the electronics industry, as well as the automotive and pharmaceuticals industries. For example, large food service companies expect all supplied cuts of meat to precisely comply with weight and geometry specifications. Thanks to their outstanding performance, the 2D/3D Sensors are already being used in many cutting systems. But railway measurements, welding head guidance, glue bead monitoring, angle and width measurements, as well as roundness measurements and much more have already found their way into practical application with the help of this technology.

    Convincing Performance: More Than 12 Million Measuring Points per Second
    The weCat3D series works with a visual field width within a range of 20 to 1300 mm in the horizontal X-axis and is capable of detecting differences in height of just 2.0 µm within the Z working range – at a rate of 3.6 to 12 million measuring points per second. Available laser classes (1, 2M, 3R, 3B) and two selectable types of light (red, blue) result in a diverse product portfolio with more than 70 models.

    Two Performance Classes and a Thousand Possibilities
    The weCat3D MLSL, with a weight of just 300 g and a space-saving housing (90 x 36 x 64 mm), scans as many as 3.6 million measuring points per second, has an output rate of up to 4000 Hz, as well as a resolution of down to 22 µm in visual field width X and down to 3.3 µm in working distance Z.
    The weCat3D MLWL scans up to 12 million measuring points per second, has an output rate of up to 6000 Hz, visual field widths from 30 to 1300 mm and high resolution (down to 17 µm in visual field width X and down to 2.0 µm in working distance Z).
    Thanks to extremely high resolution in the Z and X directions, the sensors can detect extremely small components in the micron range (e.g. and assembled PCBs). Thanks to special algorithms, the sensors generate powerful measuring signals and top quality profile data, which are not even impaired by glossy, reflective surfaces such as metals. An extremely high dynamic range also assures that objects can be precisely measured nearly independent off color and brightness.

  • New, Intelligent Products from wenglor: weQube Series 2016

    wenglor has enhanced its product range for industrial image processing with several attractive new products at SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg. In addition to its code reading and image processing functions, wenglor’s well-known weQube Smart Camera has been expanded to include optical character recognition (OCR). The combination of these three function modules is also available as a further variant with C mount threaded connection for special applications. As a standard feature, all of the variants are additionally equipped with two standard protocols, namely PROFINET and EtherNet/IP™, which can be selected as required. And thus on the one hand, wenglor is providing previously unparalleled flexibility and, on the other hand, is proving that future factory automation in the spirit of Industry 4.0 and the Smart Factory is long since a living reality.

    C Mount Threaded Connection
    The new weQube housing with standard threaded connection is compatible with all commercially available C mount camera lenses. The great diversity of usable optics permits precise adaptation of the image excerpt to the respective application – for flexible ranges of vision from greater distances as well. wenglor offers customers a selection of suitable lenses with a variety of focal lengths. And wenglor’s products are aligned to demanding quality requirements in all areas. In the described format, for example, weQube fulfills requirements for IP67 protection, and a protective tube designed especially for this purpose prevents erroneous mechanical adjustment of the lens.

    Optical Character Recognition
    The OCR function makes it possible for weQubeOCR to read predefined OCR-A and OCR-B fonts over several lines in a single scanning operation. The teach-in function offers the additional option of teaching in new fonts in order to adapt weQubeOCR ideally to customer-specific applications. A total of six new product variants with OCR module are available. In addition to the above mentioned capabilities for code reading, image processing and optical character recognition, the user interface for the software can be set to a total of ten different languages.
    A protective stainless steel housing is also available for use in hygienically sensitive industrial environments. It fulfills requirements for IP69K protection.
