Texture Jet Ltd designs, develops and deploys advanced manufacturing systems for selective surface texturing and finishing of components. Texture Jet is a recent spin-out company from the University of Nottingham’s Faculty of Engineering and is supported by Innovate UK through the Innovation-to-Commercialisation of University Research (ICURe) program, Nottingham Technology Ventures and the SolidWorks entrepreneur scheme.
Surface Texture Adjustment Technology or “STAT” is an innovative surface processing technology developed by Texture Jet. Surface texture is extremely important as it provides an object’s interface with the world. It helps to define the way an object feels, the way it looks and the way it functions. STAT has the ability to redefine the surface texture of a component simply, cleanly, efficiently, repeatably, in a quiet and non-invasive fashion, without requiring masking or causing surface damage and can be carried out on-site and in-situ. A wide variation of selective surface textures and finishes can be created through STAT, such as polishing, roughening, etching and generation of complex surface structures.
Selectively changing surface texture on a component, for example to create an optimal surface for adhesive bonding, to aid integration of metal parts into composite structures, form textures on plastic component moulds or etch a surface to reveal the grain structure, are essential activities but often carried out by antiquated, dirty, dangerous or limiting technologies.
The STAT tooling platform enables customers to rapidly and controllably produce a wide variety of surface textures and finishes. From high roughness nondeterministic surfaces or structured repeating textures, to selective etching or polishing in a more efficient manner, adding value to components and streamlining production lines.
STAT can be delivered as a hand tool, as an end-effector on a robot arm or simply as a stand-alone machine tool. It is an attractive alternative to current technologies where reductions in factory footprint, non-value-add operations, operational costs and toxic footprint are sought.
Texture Jet can provide end-to end solutions for all your surface preparation or final finishing needs. From developing bespoke highly automated systems based on our modular machine tool platforms, to simply hand-held tools used to roughen up small areas with all the service and support you require. With removal of toxic or contaminating process steps, STAT systems can be easily integrated on the factory floor without specialist environmental or operational considerations. Texture Jet can also offer in-house texturing service whereby we will design and texture components on an ad-hoc, one-off basis for that special finish on a particular component or for research and development purposes.
STAT transforms surface preparation and creation capabilities beyond the current state-of-the-art, which is difficult, cost intensive or impossible by other means.
