GOM Educational Package for Materials and Components Testing
In addition to ATOS for Education for 3D scanning and inspection tasks, GOM now also offers an educational package for materials and components testing. ARAMIS for Education is also used for teaching at vocational schools, higher education institutions and universities.
In addition to the industrial hardware and software, both packages from GOM consist of completely elaborated laboratory tests and lecture material with detailed background information. Moreover, both educational packages include an efficient inspection software for students, practical training for trainers and professional support provided by experienced engineers.
ATOS for Education
ATOS for Education is an educational package for 3D scanning and inspection tasks. It is used in various specialist fields and subjects of study: Mechanical engineering/mechatronics, engineering, industrial metrology, design and CAD/CAM. In these specialist fields, the ATOS 3D scanner is a reliable and precise measuring system.
ARAMIS for Education
For applications in the field of materials and components testing, GOM offers the package ARAMIS for Education for teaching and training. The ARAMIS system is used in subjects of study and specialist fields as material sciences/materials testing, mechanical engineering/automotive engineering/mechatronics and FEM. It has proven to be an efficient measuring system for materials and components testing.
GOM Moves into New Headquarters
In September 2016, GOM moved to its new head office in Braunschweig. With the relocation, GOM reacts to the rising demand for 3D Testing and 3D Metrology systems. Particularly, the worldwide need for automated measuring and inspection procedures led to the relocation and thus to enlarged production and development departments.
In addition to production halls and logistics, the campus of the new headquarters includes research and development laboratories, administration as well as a customer centre for training and presentations at an 8-hectare area. In Braunschweig alone, up to 500 employees, including engineers, computer scientists and mathematicians, will shape the optical measuring technology of the future. Thereby, the company contributes considerably to the industrial processes according to “Industry 4.0”. Only by 3D digitizing the actual states of finished and semi-finished products and tools, this development became possible. Going forward, based on the measuring results, production, maintenance and servicing systems will be self-controlling.

Worldwide, the company comprises over 60 sites with an employee network of more than 1,000 metrology specialists, including partners and subsidiaries. ATOS Capsule – Optical Precision Measuring Machine for Quality Assurance with Highest Image Resolution
GOM GmbH, based in Braunschweig, Germany, is expanding its ATOS series with a new sensor for full-field digitising and inspection of contoured part geometries.
The fringe projection system is used for production quality assurance of small to medium-sized parts and excels by its high precision for fine details. ATOS Capsule is used, for example, for first article inspection of gears, turbine blades and wheels as well as medical parts. In addition to surface deviations from CAD, GD&T data and detailed information is derived automatically.
ATOS 3D scanners have become firmly established in optical metrology. ATOS Capsule combines proven GOM technologies, such as Blue Light Technology and the triple scan principle, with a cutting-edge housing design that provides optimum protection against dust and splashing water for industrial use. Due to the maximum stiffness of the unibody housing, the sensor achieves the required process stability for automated applications and precise measuring results.
In the standardised measuring machine ATOS ScanBox, the ATOS Capsule system is used for fully automated measurements and inspection. The ATOS ScanBox is a complete optical 3D measuring machine that was developed by GOM for an efficient quality control in production and manufacturing processes. For different part sizes and applications, flexible and partly mobile solutions are available. Using the photogrammetric add-on sensor ATOS Plus, bigger components or several parts can be measured simultaneously in an ATOS ScanBox, while increasing the overall accuracy at the same time.
Two versions of the ATOS Capsule are available with different levels of detail. The system captures 8 or 12 million points per scan with changeable measuring areas. The dimensions of the sensor, its low weight and the short working distance simplify its application in practice.
GOM Software 2018 Release
The GOM Software 2018 is now available and offers many application-specific functions and workflows.
Digital Assembly -
Several parts can easily be virtually assembled in a project. Even measured meshes of two parts can be aligned with each other using different options. Therefore, inspections are possible not only within a part, but also between parts.
The physical assembly can be predicted or reconstructed based on individual parts. Users can, for example, precisely inspect gap and flush dimensions between the individual parts and prevent collisions.
Next Steps in Automotive Car Body Inspection -
The GOM Software 2018 offers an optimized workflow for robogrammetry to measure car bodies even faster, more accurately and with fewer means.
Thanks to new measuring principles, you can now analyze bolts and threads without adapters. In addition to standardized evaluations, GOM offers inspection principles that users can adapt individually to their measuring tasks. This makes it easy to transfer a user-specific gap and flush analysis from one point to other points on the same or another part.
Smart Inspection -
GD&T checks of a part or a part assembly that are specified in an engineering drawing can be directly chosen in the GOM Software 2018 thanks to the optimized workflow. The software automatically recognizes geometric elements and freeform surfaces and GD&T can be adapted accordingly.
Functional aspects, such as parallelism, flatness and positions in the local datum and coordinate system, can thus be inspected faster and more comfortable. The results can be displayed in a coloured deviation representation.
