  • SAFECHEM Case Study: Better Cleaning Quality While Lowering Costs

Intensive re-work, high costs as well as health, safety and environmental issues were reasons that the UK-based HS Marston Aerospace Limited, a UTC Aerospace Systems company, took an in-depth look at their cleaning process for heat exchanger components. The company has optimised parts cleaning through the use of modified alcohol solvent and COMPLEASE™, the chemical leasing model from SAFECHEM. UTC Aerospace Systems is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

SAFRAN Nacelles switched from traditional solvent delivery to COMPLEASE™ Chemical Leasing with
    DOWPER™*MC Perchloroethylene

Chlorinated solvents are essential to achieve the desired results in numerous precision surface cleaning applications, especially
in the aerospace industry. However, many manufactures are evaluating alternatives; so did SAFRAN Nacelles Ltd. at Burnley
(UK). In order not to jeopardise cleaning quality, the nacelle manufacturer decided for DOWPER™* MC Perchloroethylene and
COMPLEASE™, the chemical leasing model from SAFECHEM. It helps to ensure that the highest requirements to both component
cleanliness and health, safety and the environment (HSE) are met. At the same time, the service-oriented leasing model provides process optimisation to reliably produce top products.

  • Efficient, environmentally friendly, and safe cleaning of tooling for composite components

Fully automatic cleaning process with solvents

Composites such as CFRP are the key to lightweight construction in various industries. Cleaning the tooling used to manufacture these components is usually done manually with aggressive, environmentally harmful solvents. A well-known company in the aviation industry replaced this time-consuming and labour-intensive manual cleaning process with an automatic cleaning system in a completely closed solvent cleaning unit that uses a modified alcohol. The result is not only higher quality and much shorter cleaning times, but also a significant reduction in the risk placed on employees and the environment.
