  • A robust, high-temperature additive manufacturing material with a more sustainable footprint

    Carbon, the Silicon Valley-based digital manufacturing company, has announced a new, high-performance production material for its Digital Light Synthesis™ (DLS™) technology.

    RPU 130, a rigid polyurethane resembling unfilled nylon or polypropylene in properties, is tough, heat resistant, and impact resistant with a heat deflection temperature of 119˚C. Addressing an increasing demand for more sustainability in part production, nearly 30% of RPU 130’s make-up comes from sustainable raw materials. RPU 130 is ideally suited for rigorous applications in industries such as automotive and industrial products.

    Paragon Rapid Technologies, Carbon’s first UK production partner, has been using RPU 130 to produce end use parts for a leading automotive manufacturer.

    “This has given us the opportunity to understand how this material functions in terms of performance,” says Roy Crombie, Paragon’s DLS Manager. “So far, we have offered the parts to the automotive sector. RPU 130 combines some of the best properties of Carbon’s other polyurethane and epoxy resins, resulting in superior rigidity, tensile strength, and functionality, and it has opened the automotive sector’s eyes to the bigger picture of 3D printing for production. Once the automotive industry adopts such a process, we see it being adopted by other markets very quickly.

    The results have been phenomenal. Sample parts that have failed in other materials can be produced with RPU 130. Its impact resistance and ability to reproduce unmouldable geometries are particularly desirable to the automotive sector.”

    RPU 130 will be a key feature of Paragon Rapid Technologies’ Additive Manufacturing showcase on Stand D27 at Advanced Engineering UK 2019. Paragon will also be presenting CNC and prototyping services.

    “We have a material that can withstand some of the most demanding conditions. That it has been produced with a more sustainable footprint fits perfectly with the drive for greener automotive production,” says Roy.

    CNC Machine Operator/Programmer

    Paragon Rapid Technologies is a market leading innovation services company providing state-of-the-art prototyping and LVM solutions to OEMs, Tier 1 manufacturers, designers and engineering teams. Our impressive portfolio of clients comes from a wide range of markets, from automotive to TV.

    Thanks to a significant increase in demand for our CNC services, we are now looking for a 5-axis CNC machine operator/programmer to join our team.

    Responsibilities
    • Programme and operate Hurco, Haas and CMS CNC machines
    • CAM programming using Delcam/Autodesk PowerMill
    • Operate manual mills and lathes when required
    • Machining of jigs, fixtures, mould tools and components in a wide range of materials
    • Flexible working hours to meet customer demands, with possible 3-shift patterns

    Skills and Experience
    • An ability to self-manage projects and to work on own initiative
    • Planning and prioritising multiple work loads
    • Adherence to project completion within strict deadlines
    • 3 years minimum CAM programming
    • Experience of Hurco, Haas & CMS machines is an advantage; experience of 5-axis programming and machining is essential
    • Tool making and design experience preferred
    • Confidence in working in a fast-paced engineering environment
    • Excellent time management
