With over 35 years’ experience supplying the aerospace, motorsport, renewable energy, defence, sports & leisure, medical and marine industries, we are now building on significant recent investment to further develop our prepreg manufacturing capability and extend our range of high quality prepreg materials.

This year has seen continued growth and expansion for the company, both in terms of facilities and capabilities. We have recently installed a state-of-the-art unidirectional prepreg line and have just launched our new RP542-4 toughened system for UD and woven prepreg materials. Designed as an intermediately toughened system, complimenting both our RP542-1 and super-toughened RP549 systems, the new RP542-4 system is producing excellent results on unidirectional carbon and woven fabrics. Continuing to invest in R&D, further product developments are a priority for the team.

Doing things differently, PRF is committed to innovation and quality, and providing a professional and responsive service with technical support. Product news

  • PRF Composite Materials opens new facility and unveils new brand

PRF Composite Materials is delighted to announce the opening of our new factory – the third site the company now operates from – and our new corporate brand.

  • PRF Composite Materials releases new RP542-4 toughened prepreg system for UD and woven fabrics

Designed as an intermediately toughened system, complimenting both its RP542-1 and super-toughened RP549 systems, the new RP542-4 system is producing excellent results on unidirectional and woven carbon fabrics.

Head of Technology, Heather Hughes, comments: “The mechanical testing carried out shows the system to have excellent Tensile, Compressive, Flexural and Interlaminar properties and a relatively high Tg of 138°C after curing at 120°C. The onset Tg can be improved by 20°C to 120°C after post curing at 140°C for 2 hours. Adding to its usability, the system also has an out life of 60 days at 20°C.

The system is now in manufacture on 300gsm and 600gsm unidirectional carbon and PRF’s wide range of high quality woven fabrics in a variety of fibre types.

  • PRF Composite Materials unveils new UD prepreg line

Following the opening of its third facility, PRF has continued its expansion by increasing on-site UD prepreg manufacturing. The new, state-of-the-art line has been installed at PRF’s head office and prepreg manufacturing facility, and is supported by R&D chemists, with in house resin system development - making these new materials fully compatible with PRF’s range of woven prepregs - and extensive lab facilities equipped for mechanical testing, rheology, DMA and DSC. Product development remains a key focus for PRF, along with high quality and innovation.

PRF’s new UD prepreg capability includes carbon materials from 80 to 600gsm, at standard widths of 300 mm and 600 mm. Other widths are possible, if required.

Managing Director, Robert Burnell comments: “Our woven prepreg materials continue to receive exceptional customer feedback and being able to provide a comprehensive range of high quality UD materials allows PRF to complete our prepreg offering. Doing things differently, PRF will continue to push boundaries and focus on innovative product development that enables our customers to get better results, faster and in a more cost-effective manner.”
