  • Rotech extends laboratory facility with new Cleanliness testing laboratory

Rotech has extended its laboratory facility by installing a Cleanliness testing laboratory at its Wednesbury site. The lab will specialise in verifying component cleanliness after manufacturing processes. Qualitative and quantitative detection of particulate contamination is essential in preventing costly field failures.

The Cleanliness Laboratory is primarily for Automotive and Aerospace customers. It has allowed Rotech to increase its testing capacity with a designated laboratory offering optimal reduction of risk of contamination. It will also provide a fully contained verification process in applications where reliability is crucial and safety paramount.

  • New Materials Testing Hub for the Black Country

Rubery Owen is developing a state-of-the-art testing facility in Brierley Hill, in the heart of the Black Country. The new site will combine the expertise and innovation of Rotech Laboratories, Phoenix Materials Testing and Merlin Powder Characterisation.

Rotech Laboratories, Phoenix Materials Testing and Merlin Powder Characterisation, the UK’s most diverse materials testing specialists, will operate under the umbrella of the newly-formed Rubery Owen Materials Testing Division. Each business will trade as a distinct company and maintain their current premises but will enjoy the collaboration of expertise and innovation at a new combined testing facility and laboratory.

The new site is planned for completion in October 2019 and will combine the latest in high temperature, humidity and pressure testing capabilities along with current fatigue and thermomechanical fatigue (TMF) testing. It will also house the Merlin Powder Characterisation test facility in which the physical properties and compressibility of powders are determined by use of an hydraulic compaction simulator. This unique, cutting-edge facility will help to keep the UK at the forefront of testing technology.

The division will be run under the leadership of John Cross as General Manager. John Cross commented: “This new lab is very exciting news for the Black Country and UK materials testing. We have an exceptional team and will be able to bring considerable benefits to our customers with collaboration of expertise and innovation.”

The newly designed facility will support customers from the aerospace, academic, automotive, nuclear, defence, oil & gas and pharmaceutical sectors where reliability is crucial and safety paramount.

The Rubery Owen Materials Testing Division look forward to showcasing the new facility by hosting a number of open day events later this year.
