The VIPER pre-cooler

The VIPER pre-cooler heat exchanger was built and tested in order to demonstrate the novel heat exchanger technology developed by Reaction Engines (REL).

The successful tests were performed at REL’s test facility (near Abingdon in the UK) during 2011 and 2012.
The pre-cooler is an integral part of the SABRE (Synergetic Air-Breathing Rocket Engine) concept and the pre-cooler tests have led to further investment in developing this technology



Prion Mk3 Drone

The Prion Mk3 has a flight endurance in excess of 1000 kms or greater than 12 hours airborne before landing to re-fuel. Within the civilian market place this flight endurance sets aside the Prion Mk3 UAV platform as a unique offering with proven versatile payload options. Only military equipment is routinely flown with an endurance profile exceeding that of the Prion Mk3.

JUNO - Graphene in Aerospace

Juno, a 3,5 metre wingspan Graphene skinned aircraft, was revealed on the North West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA) stand by the University of Central Lancashire as part of the ‘Futures Day’ at Farnborough Air Show 2018. This is the latest aircraft in the pathway to the application of Graphene in the aerospace industry.

The University of Central Lancashire aerospace engineering team has worked in partnership with the Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), the University of Manchester’s National Graphene Institute (NGI), Haydale Composites and a range of other businesses to develop the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), that also includes Graphene batteries and Graphene 3D printed parts.

Juno has highlighted reducing weight to increase range, defeating lightning strike and protecting aircraft skins against ice build-up.
