Markwins Acquires Prestige Cosmetics Brand

Continuing with its 15-year acquisition run, privately-owned Markwins Beauty has accessed its 4th brand—prestige makeup pro brand Lorac. Markwins acquired AM Cosmetics with brands wet ‘n’ wild and Black Radiance in 2003, Physicians Formula Holdings, Inc. in 2012, and Aspire Brands assets Bonne Bell and Lip Smacker in 2015. With the addition of Lorac, Markwins will complement its already well-established mass beauty portfolio with the addition of this prestige brand.

L’Occitane has announced its results for fiscal 2018. The company saw sales rise 4.6 percent at constant rates over the year (-0.3 reported) to €1,319.4 million. Gross margin remained high at 83.3 percent although profit dropped 27.1 percent over the year, which the company attributes to foreign exchange effects and tax reform in the US.

K-beauty’s nature republic launches in Saudi Arabia

K-beauty brand Nature Republic has cut the ribbon on its first store in Saudi Arabia, according to a report published by the Korea Times.

The new store, which will serve as a flagship for the brand, is located in Riyadh’s Al Nakheel Mall. The K-beauty brand has teamed up with local retailer Fawaz Alhokair and plans to open four further stores in the country by the end of the year.

Third-Quarter Sales Up 18% at The Estée Lauder Companies

The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. has reported strong financial results for its third quarter ended March 31, 2018. The company achieved net sales of $3.37 billion, an increase of 18%, compared with $2.86 billion in the prior-year quarter. Net earnings rose 25% to $372 million, compared with $298 million last year. Diluted net earnings per common share increased 24% to $.99, compared with $.80 reported in the prior year, including restructuring and other charges and adjustments.
