The Agricultural and Livestock Sector: Engine of Growth in Colombia!
Colombia has huge potential for agriculture and livestock. The main activities are focused on winning products such as sugar cane, African oil palm, rice and cereals, beef and dairy cattle, pigs, flowers, bananas, coffee, fruits and vegetables.
In Colombia it is estimated that only 25% of the total land surface is cultivated. There is still great untapped potential in areas such as cereals and sugar cane for energy production, and palm and forest products for biodiesel production.
"Entrepreneurship, formalisation of production activities in the countryside, and technological innovation are some of the key factors – on which the Ministry of Agriculture has set its sights – to make this sector a locomotive of economic development. Colombia is a country that has a very large offer of land." Juan Camilo Restrepo - Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
