  • Turn your oven/BBQ cooking bags into ‘bags of flavour’

    AN OVENABLE cooking bag which uses herbs and spices to flavour the food while cooking is the latest product from innovative food packaging manufacturer Sirane.

    Bags of Ideas – a new campaign from Sirane aimed at showcasing our cooking bag solutions – will feature the flavoursome addition to our BBQ/oven cooking bag range: and it is cooking bags which will form the focus of our stand at Packaging Innovations at the NEC, Birmingham, from March 1-2.

    The new addition uses a blend of kilned beech mixed with frozen herbs and spices, which are placed in a sachet and slipped below the bag’s siliconized layer.

  • Anti-microbial absorbent packaging gives two days extra shelf-life to diced beef in trials with leading processor

    ANTI-MICROBIAL absorbent packaging from Sirane has given diced beef two additional days’ shelf-life in recent trials with one major UK meat processing company. The independently-run trials showed a two-day increase from nine to 11 days on the shelf-life of the packs containing Sirane’s ABM pads compared to existing packaging.   • Soft-fruit a launch pad for Sirane North America as manufacturing begins

    SIRANE’S new manufacturing facility and offices in Mexico are now up and running – with manufacturing having begun in earnest within the last month. Absorbent fruit pad production has now begun at the site in Guadalajara after months of planning, using machines shipped over to Mexico from the UK. And while the initial focus will be on the soft-fruit market, the ambitious team at Sirane North America have longer-term plans to actively develop other markets, including other food packaging areas and medical & healthcare.

  • US cooking bag distributor adds retail pack to its range

    FOLLOWING a huge amount of interest in their ‘grab and go’ over-the-counter cooking bag programme, Sirane’s partners in the US have now launched a cooking bag retail pack.

    Elkay Plastics’ Ready. Chef. Go!’ concept – which offers retailers a range of cooking bags and a choice of sauces and flavoured butters to offer as either over-the-counter sales where the customer chooses their combination or pre-prepared ‘grab and go’ meals – has taken off in the last 12 months, having been adopted by many US grocery stores chains.

    Grocers around the United States - and the world over – have benefitted from offering fresh, packaged take-home meals for their customers to cook themselves by packaging their raw seafood, meat, and produce in ready-to-cook Ready. Chef. Go! bags or similar.

    The self-seal steam-cooking bags provide the ultimate in convenience to customers; they can cook in either the oven or microwave and can be used to create healthy, fresh, and delicious meals in as little as three minutes without virtually any food prep or clean up needed.

    While customers have enjoyed purchasing these convenient meals from their grocers, they have been asking to buy the bags by themselves to craft their own recipes and meals. It’s a product we often get asked for – with inquiries often received from the US & Australia.

Meals were also offered over-the counter at the seafood counter, where customers could choose combinations.

  • Food packaging will be Sirane's focus at Packaging Innovations

    PACKAGING Innovations 2016 at the NEC in Birmingham will be an opportunity for Sirane to showcase some of our newer and more innovative product ranges.

    The show – which runs from February 24-25 and incorporates Contract Pack and Eco Pack – is the UK’s largest packaging show, and focuses on developments across the supply chain.

    And we have some great developments to share, including a major development in anti-microbial food packaging and an exciting new product that’s still top secret…

    Jeremy Haydn-Davies, sales director, said: “Packaging Innovations is always a popular and busy event, and this year we’ve decided to make the focus of our stand food packaging.

    “Food packaging is a significant part of Sirane’s business, and we’ve got some stunning innovations to share at Packaging Innovations, including anti-microbial packaging which can be used to extend the shelf-life of meat, fish and poultry as well as soft & delicate fruits.”

    Sirane’s new Dri-Fresh ABV pads for fruit and ABM pads for meat, fish & poultry contain a blend of natural bio-flavonoids and organic acids which work together to extend shelf-life. Together with the absorbency within the pad, they offer an outstanding level of protection.

    The technology can be supplied as standard absorbent pads or incorporated into any of our other pads including our odour-absorbing pads, cushioned pads for soft-fruit etc. The ABM/ABV technology is activated by moisture – so only functions when needed.

    Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “There are obvious differences between meat, poultry, fish and fruit, in terms of the way they degrade and what causes the degradation to happen.

    “However, there are also similarities meaning we’ve been able to modify the technology and the solutions we have developed to cover differing markets. Soft-fruit, with little in the way of protective skin, is vulnerable to fungal and bacterial degradation. Similarly, with meat, fish and particularly poultry, reducing microbes and bacteria can be hugely beneficial.

    “These benefits are not only the physical appearance and extended shelf-life of the product, they can also be enhanced food safety, again particularly relevant to the poultry market.

    “The combination of flavonoids which are anti-oxidants and anti-microbial, with organic acids including citric acid and ascorbic acids is harmless, as all elements are found naturally within fruit. It is clean, simple, and effective. Nature itself often has the answers.

    “This complements our existing shelf-life extending technologies, including odour-absorbing pads, absorbent cushioned pads, anti-fungal pads, ethylene-absorbing pads and labels and more – and it is perfect for soft and delicate fruit, poultry and seafood.

    “People have tried, and failed, in the past, to make anti-microbial packaging… but the major difference here is the method of delivery. With the anti-microbial integrated into the pad, and activated only when needed, it gets efficiently to the heart of the problem.”

    Other food packaging areas which will be on show at the exhibition include oven/microwave cooking solutions, including steam-cooking bags, nylon roasting bag materials, oven/BBQ bags and multi-compartment steam-cooking bags.

    Our range of cooking bags can be used in many ways, including pre-packed ready meals, over-the-counter, grab and go and more. We even offer them in retail packs to sell.

    We’ll also have our materials suitable for crisping food in the microwave, including susceptor boards, susceptor film etc – which are perfect for the food-to-go/convenience sector.
