The Education Pavilion
Launching the industry’s new education initiative The Full Package, this year’s show unveils the Education Pavilion a new interactive show feature.
With a remit to educate and inform, the Education Pavilion is hosted by many of the sector’s leading lights including Dick Searle, Chief Executive of The Packaging Federation. Dick and other luminaries will be on hand on both days of the show to speak with educators keen to know more about packaging, how modern society could simply not function without it and how it saves waste. How many people outside the sector know that a shrink wrapped cucumber will stay fresh for 14 days, whereas a ‘naked’ one will have gone off after just 3 days on the shelf!
Located close to the International Brand Summit, visitors to the Education Pavilion also have the choice to see not one but two design competitions in action. The Student Design Challenge sees product design, brand strategy and innovation students from Brunel University going head-to-head in a packaging competition co-sponsored by Design Bridge and KFC. Briefed with the challenge to create innovative brand design solutions for the quick serve restaurant chain, by understanding and identifying opportunities in the consumer journey, six teams of students will showcase their ideas and concepts. Each team consists of a mix of Masters Students from MSc Integrated Product Design, MA Design and Branding Strategy and MA in Design Strategy and Innovation.
Three teams of two students from Solihull College, Cardiff School of Art & Design and Swindon College will take part in a 'Concept Problem Solving' programme. For the last few years The Packaging Society, part of IOM3, has supported new talent coming through our Design Institutions by giving them the 'experience' of working at the show, meeting the industry, getting valuable advice, networking and presenting their portfolios for future recruitment opportunities.
See these students come up with concepts to solve packaging issues and problems on the Education Pavilion. They will address some of the real challenges that exist offering imaginative, functional and appropriate packaging solutions.
