Ready Steady Design

This competition is open to anyone with some experience of packaging design since training and support with the Artios ‘Studio’ software is available. While familiarity with Adobe Illustrator would be useful, there will be staff on hand to advise.

Artios are one of the leading suppliers of hardware and software to the carton packaging industry with many profiles programmed into the system.

Competitors will be required to design a carton from one of three categories – Toy box, Food product or Perfume carton. Having done so they can use the system to select a basic carton style and then adapt this to suit the chosen product. The full range of printing and finishing techniques will be available to them in addition to embossing and cut/crease technologies.

Key elements in judging the success of each entry will be the impact of the pack when viewed in the virtual reality of the QuickTime movie software which will enable an assessment to be made of the structural design, funky graphics and special finishes.

All competitors will be provided with 30 minutes mentoring so as to understand the potential of the software and then be given 90 minutes to put their ideas into practice.
The winner will the entry which is judged to have achieved the optimum balance for the product between

                             * Practicality of the structure
                             * Fitness for purpose
                             * Graphical Impact
                             * Use of special effects and technology
