  • The New PYROMENT IK90® Typ BD: More Safety and Faster Installation

First Ducting for Electrical Installations to Actively Contain Fire

The new PYROMENT IK90® Typ BD by G+H Isolierung is the first ducting for electrical installations (I-ducting) on the market to actively contain fire. For the first time, it also makes it possible to protect constrictions, and it cuts installation time by up to 80 percent. The system is certified for fire resistance rating I 30 to I 120.

Passive fire protection system with active effect
PYROMENT IK90® Typ BD is made of galvanized steel sheet with a special intumescent coating, forming an insulating barrier, and a top coat. When installed in emergency exits, the system is capable of more than conventional I-ducting, which only protects surroundings from the effects of an electrical cable fire. “In the event of a fire, the intumescent coating swells, immediately preventing the fire from spreading along the ducting,” product engineer Wolfram Adam, expert for preventive fire protection at G+H Isolierung, explained. “This provides operators with a high degree of safety, and if damage does occur, the resulting costs are considerably lower,” Adam further pointed out. Conventional I-ducting with a sheet steel sheath is covered with panels made of mineral wool, calcium silicate or gypsum. While these materials prevent a cable fire from spreading throughout the room, they cannot prevent the ducts from being consumed by fire. Consequently, a risk of considerable damage has existed up to now, as I-ducting is very often laid through several fire sections, resulting in stretches of several hundred meters in some cases.

Constrictions can be protected for the first time
At a thickness of 1.6 to 3.0 millimeters, the new I-ducting is up to 40 millimeters thinner than conventional systems, allowing it to be installed even in difficultly accessed places. This innovative system is fast and easy to install, saving as much as 80 percent of installation time and reducing labor costs considerably. An additional feature facilitating installation is the light weight: at 6.5 to 10.5 kg/m2, this product weighs only a fraction of conventional duct systems.

    Dust-free processing
Thanks to the special material used in the manufacture of PYROMENT IK90® Typ BD, for the first time ducting can be processed and installed dust-free. This makes the system suitable for specialized installations, including hospitals, offices, computer centers, clean rooms and in the food and beverage industry.

  • PYROMENT KVB 2000® Typ W: For Use Outdoors

First Waterproof Fire Protection System for Electrical Cables

For the first time ever, PYROMENT KVB 2000® Typ W makes it possible to protect outdoor electrical cables simply and reliably. The black cable bandage, developed by G+H Isolierung on a graphite base, is suitable for use with any type and length of cable. When exposed to heat, the cable bandage swells. When a fire does occur, it delays the breakdown of electrical cables and prevents the spread of local sources of fire through the cable ducts.

Particularly with cables installed outdoors, such as at refineries, airports or soccer stadiums, preventive fire protection measures have been extremely costly up to now. In addition to the fire protection system itself, elaborate sheet metal or foil casings or a protective coating needed to be applied. These then required regular inspections to ensure against leaks caused by cracks or peeling.

PYROMENT KVB 2000® Typ W now provides the market with a reliable and easy-to-install fire protection system for outdoors. “The bandage, which is only 1.2 to
1.6 millimeters in thickness, can be easily and flexibly wrapped around cables. There is no need for additional coverings or coatings. Additional suspension or support is not necessary because the surface weight is only about 1,200 to 1,600 grams/m2,” Wolfram Adam, expert for preventive fire protection at G+H Isolierung, explained.

PYROMENT KVB 2000® Typ W has been approved as a fire protection textile by the Deutsches Institut für Bauwesen (German Building Institute; approval number: Z-19.11.1865).

Beyond this, tests for the maintenance of circuit integrity performed to IEC (International Electronic Commission) 60331-11 and IEC 60331-21 by MPA Dresden have demonstrated that cables protected by the new G+H fire protection bandage can resist flames for up to 120 minutes.

  • PYROSTAT-UNI®: The Fire Protection Tape for Flammable and Inflammable Pipes

    R 90 According to DIN 4102 Part 11

The issue of fire protection is once again at the top of the agenda in many places. An increasing number of public-sector measures are planned in this area, not least as a result of the second economic stimulus package. Requirements from industry and building technology are constantly on the rise. With its fire wall multi-talent PYROSTAT-UNI®, G+H ISOLIERUNG now offers a solution for cold and thermal insulated piping systems that caters to all needs. Whether they run through fire-resistant walls or ceilings, PYROSTAT-UNI® makes it possible to easily and reliably seal pipe penetrations for fire protection.

    Diverse fire protection applications
PYROSTAT-UNI® not only eliminates the need to change insulation material in the area of ducts, often necessary in the past – especially for thermal insulation – but with this fire protection tape, fire walls for flammable plastic or composite plastic pipes can also be produced, whether the pipes are insulated or not. For the first time PYROSTAT-UNI® also makes it possible to securely protect pipe penetrations through light dividing walls – without any additional protective insulation. So it is easier than ever to seal piping-system penetrations against fire and smoke. The system impresses with its simple installation, limited space requirements and diverse application possibilities. Planners and contractors particularly appreciate the cost savings.

    Installation advantages
PYROSTAT-UNI® is applied as tape around the insulation at the wall/ceiling. When a fire occurs, the system foams up and forms a closed barrier against fire and smoke. Moreover, it is no longer necessary to keep different sized cuffs for various diameters: because this fire wall solution can flexibly be cut to the necessary diameter size directly on site.
