Founded in 1991, nowadays SONOTEC GmbH is a leading specialist in ultrasonic measurement technology solutions. With more than 125 employees, the technology company based in Halle (Saale) in the heart of Germany develops and manufactures customer-specific ultrasonic transducers and sensors as well as testing equipment and measuring technology solutions for a wide variety of industries. These range from medical technology and the chemical and pharmaceutical industries to engineering and plant construction and non-destructive testing.
The SONAPHONE R ultrasonic detector is designed for the quick and simple detection of small leaks and seal failures. The mobile hand-held device detects leaks in compressed air lines and in steam, gas and vacuum systems with reliability and precision. Furthermore, the SONAPHONE R can be used for the inspection of tanks, pipes, valves and slide valves.
This budget detection device can also be used for the reliable early detection of damage to friction or anti-friction bearings and for the detection of damage to electrical insulation after partial discharges.
In non-pressurised systems the device can be used to detect leaks in combination with the ultrasonic transmitter SONAPHONE T, which emits signals that penetrate the leakage and that can then be detected by the SONAPHONE R.
The SONOSPOT parabolic probe can be used in order to detect leaks and electrical partial discharges over long distances.
The SONAPHONE RD ultrasonic detector provides quick and easy detection of minor leaks and seal failures. The mobile handheld device locates leaks in compressed air lines and in steam, gas and vacuum systems both safely and precisely. The SONAPHONE RD can also be used to inspect tanks, pipes, valves, gates and steam traps.
In addition, this reasonably priced unit allows reliable early detection of damage to plain and roller bearings as well as electrical insulation failure caused by partial discharge.
The SONAPHONE RD has an optionally backlit digital display which indicates the ultrasound level. This is particularly useful for comparative tests and regular maintenance checks.
The SONAPHONE T ultrasonic transmitter is used alongside the SONAPHONE RD to detect leaks in non-pressurised systems: The transmitted signals escape through the leak points and are located by the SONAPHONE RD.

The SONAPHONE M is designed for the rapid, reliable and cost-effective detection of seal failures and the smallest of leaks within compressed air systems and networks, vacuum systems, industrial equipment and machinery and covered pipes with restricted access. The ultrasonic detection device enables the early detection and avoidance of potential damages and resulting cost savings.
The regular inspection of engines, pumps and gearing using the SONAPHONE M leads to increased operational reliability and guarantees a higher degree of availability of machinery. By means of the flow noise the inspection of the leak tightness of valves, slide valves and steam traps is possible. The option of an additional ultrasonic transmitter allows the control of the leak tightness of windows, doors, cabins and devices with little additional expense.
Defect induced noises and wear to various machinery components and rotating machinery can be recorded electronically. In addition to all individual and serial testing procedures, all irregularities can be transferred to a PC online and presented and archived in graphic and tabular format. An efficient integrated data logger enables the rapid transfer of data between the device and your computer via a USB interface.
The addition of an optional temperature sensor allows the measurement and simultaneous recording of surface temperatures of up to 800 °C. The SONAPHONE M has a user-friendly display and PC software with logical menu navigation.
The SONOSPOT parabolic probe for SONAPHONE devices is designed for the rapid, reliable and cost-effective detection of seal failures and the smallest of leaks from compressed air systems and networks, industrial equipment and machinery and covered pipes with restricted access. The use of this parabolic probe leads to significant energy cost savings and an increase of operational reliability. The long range capability of the probe and the integrated red dot point sight, which can be replaced by a laser pointer set upon request, allow reliable and precise detection, even over long distances.
The high sensitivity and precise directionality of the sensor allow the detection of electrical partial discharges and damages to electrical insulation e.g. on medium-voltage machinery. The insensitivity of the probe to background noise within its acoustic range makes it ideal for use in noise intensive areas. The optimised ergonomics and low weight make the probe extremely simple to handle and easy to transport.
The SONAPHONE E is designed for the rapid, reliable and cost-effective detection of seal failures and the smallest of leaks within compressed air systems and networks, vacuum systems, industrial equipment and machinery and covered pipes with restricted access. The ultrasonic detection device enables the early detection and avoidance of potential damages and resulting cost savings.

Due to its intrinsically safe construction design, the SONAPHONE E is also suitable for use in areas with risk of explosion.
The SONAPHONE K is designed for the testing of steam traps and other pipe-mounted valves in systems with a flow of steam of temperatures of up to 800 °C.
The SONAPHONE K enables the testing of the proper functionality of steam traps and also allows an estimate of any losses of steam within the system. The testing of steam traps occurs via the monitoring of the ultrasonic signal levels emitted from the valve. Defective steam traps emit a quite different signal to intact traps. The ultrasonic oscillations emitted at leaky steam traps are recorded and their intensity is displayed digitally. An additional temperature measurement of the surface temperature of the valve increases the reliability of the readings of the device.
The rapid testing intervals enable an assessment of the condition of the steam trap within a few seconds. Due to the large variety of types of steam traps and the specific conditions associated with individual systems and pieces of machinery, the assessment of measurement values is dependent on the decision criteria and/or ultrasound levels determined by the tester.
The SONAPHONE T mobile ultrasonic transmitter is designed for the rapid and reliable detection of seal failures in windows, doors, cabins, vehicles and containers with sealing surfaces or rubber profile seals. In addition to applications in road and rail vehicle construction, the SONAPHONE T is also used in the ship and boat building industry and for testing fire safety doors, climatic chambers and clean rooms. Used in conjunction with an ultrasonic receiver from the SONAPHONE series, the SONAPHONE T enables efficient leak testing at minimal cost. Due to the simple operating principle, use of the device does not require a great deal of costly staff training and therefore minimises post-purchase costs.
The robust ultrasonic transmitter has an integrated LC-display for simple menu navigation. The modulation of the transmission signal guarantees the clear detection of the ultrasound signal, irrespective of potential background noise. Furthermore, the sound intensity of the transmitter is also adjustable. This means that the device is capable of precisely detecting the smallest of leaks as well as large areas of leakage.
The option of using the additional omnidirectional spherical transmitter SONOSPHERE enables the testing of both very large and awkwardly-shaped areas.
Our ergonomically-designed angle beam probes for non-destructive testing (NDT), part of the SONOSCAN probe series, are designed to check for cracks and occlusions in metals. They are used primarily in the metalworking industry for the inspection of weld seams. SONOSCAN probes are efficient, robust ultrasonic transducers that can be used in conjunction with all standard ultrasonic testing devices.
Due to their variety of design and size, our probes are optimally suited for a multitude of applications. Looping-in of the probe enables it to be adapted and used for curved surfaces, for example for various types of pipeline. The unique and practical ergonomic design of our angle beam probes enables comfortable and convenient use.
In addition to our two standard products, we can also manufacture customer-specific solutions.

SONOSCAN vertical probes for non-destructive testing (NDT) have been designed to test materials, primarily metals and plastics, for the smallest of material defects. Example applications are the detection of fusion defects in soldered joints, welding defects and cracks as well as the identification of porosity in metal components.
Pulse Echo Probes are designed for universal use. They detect smallest, deep-seated material defects. The flexible protective membrane ensures an optimal coupling to rough surfaces. For slippery or sharp-edged surfaces the application of models with a wear resistant protective layer are ideal.
Dual Element Probes detect even the smallest material errors near the surface precisely. They are particularly suitable for the detection of lamination flaws and to measure thin wall thicknesses.
