Weighing Enclosures Series ST1-V2
The ST1-V2 Series of powder handling enclosures protects the user from airborne contaminants
commonly present during weighing and sample manipulation processes.
Protection is achieved and guaranteed by:
• Constant monitoring of air flow using an audible/visual alarm.
• Controlled turbulence free airflow
• Ergonomic design
• Working under GLP regulations
During weighing and sample handling processes the following PPE (Personal Protective
Equipment) is recommended as a minimal requirement:
Lab coat, glasses and gloves.
For additional personal protection, we recommend using double gloves and glove sleeves.
Safe weighing and handling techniques, correct use of personal protective
equipment, and training in contamination awareness will ensure the best protection against contamination.
The design of the ST1 series of enclosures provides a proven high level of containment with minimal risk of contaminant loss from the enclosure.
The weighing enclosure has a low-turbulence airflow, which provides a stable and safe environment for weighing with sensitive analytical balances. Extraction and filtration is
provided via a separate extract and filtration unit, which is separate from the enclosure to eliminate risk of vibration, and to isolate the contaminated filters.
The ST1-V2 series design provides a horizontal, airflow across the entire work surface. Airborne contaminants generated during weighing and handling activities are extracted and retained
within the safe change HEPA filter enclosed in the fan filtration unit. Clean exhaust air is then re-circulated back into the laboratory, or connected to the facilities extract system.
The fan filtration unit provides a constant extract air volume which ensures airflow volumes within the enclosure do not fluctuate and affect containment performance.
The air volume requirements for the ST1-V2 enclosure series is very low in comparison to standard fume hoods (200-360m³/hr dependent on enclosure size) and is of contact air volume (CAV) design, making it very simple to integrate into a facilities extract system.
Filtration for particulates is provided via a HEPA Filter (High Efficiency Particulate Arrestor), which has an efficiency of at least 99.995% (H14). Filter operating life is up to 3 years.
An audible and visual alarm is triggered when airflow conditions fall below set levels, for example when the door is opened, or when the fan extract pressure is affected.
Unique to ST1-V2 enclosures, the airflow is monitored using two separate airflow sensors positioned in the face opening section at either side of the enclosure. This provides an actual
condition measurement at the face opening as opposed to in the ductwork as is common in other systems.
The base frame provides a bunded spillage area. In the event of liquid spillage, a minimum of
5 litres of liquid can be contained within the base area.
The double-bag waste system (optional) with internal and external waste bags allows safe
removal of waste and the safe entry and removal of containers from inside the enclosure.
The stainless steel airfoil helps to direct a smooth airflow across the face of the enclosure
and also good base airflow across the base of the enclosure. The airfoil also acts as an arm
rest providing both a threshold point between contaminated and clean areas, and allowing
the user work comfortably without touching a potentially contaminated base area within the
The ergonomic profile design of the enclosure body is an important aspect, as the user can
lean naturally towards the balance to comfortably weigh small sample quantities. The
visibility throughout the enclosure and to the balance functions is unobstructed and very
The interior height allows the user good movement space for pipetting and handling of
samples other than for standard weighing processes.
The ST1 series has been tested with surrogate drug substances to prove containment
performance in weighing applications. Test reports are available on request.
