Splunk is the Engine for Machine Data.
Your IT infrastructure generates massive amounts of data. Machine data - generated by websites, applications, servers, networks, mobile devices and the like.

By monitoring and analyzing everything from customer clickstreams and transactions to network activity to call records, Splunk turns your machine data into valuable insights.

Troubleshoot problems and investigate security incidents in minutes (not hours, or days). Monitor your end-to-end infrastructure to avoid service degradation or outages. And gain real-time visibility into customer experience, transactions and behavior.

Splunk for Application Management

Developing, maintaining and supporting large, complex, highly distributed, mission-critical applications is extremely challenging. Traditional Application Management approaches are ill-equipped to handle the complexity of today's application architectures and deployment environments. Splunk provides a better approach, enabling you to find and fix application problems faster to reduce downtime, gain end-to-end operational visibility of your key performance indicators and deliver new insights from your machine data to help the business make better decisions.

Splunk for IT Operations Management

IT datacenters worldwide are overwhelmingly complex, with hundreds of different technologies and devices layered and entwined to deliver business services. Virtualization and cloud computing multiply this complexity, especially when there are outages or performance issues. IT operations management teams and administrators waste valuable time moving from one console to another, logging onto one element after another, trying to track down the data they need to ensure high performance and availability.

Splunk provides a better approach. It collects and indexes all the data generated by your IT infrastructure - your networks, server and guest OS, hypervisors, database audit trails, message queues. It works with any machine-generated data, including logs, file configurations, performance metrics, SNMP traps and custom application logs. And without the need for custom parsers or adapters. With Splunk you can turn silos of data into integrated, actionable information and operational insights.

Splunk for Security

Security and compliance issues happen fast and can start anywhere in your enterprise architecture. Current trends show increased sophistication of malware and increased creativity in defeating signature or rules based systems. Keeping data safe is no longer about hoping your traditional security architecture is going to catch potential security issues. Most of the security systems are watching for things that happened in the past or things that have already been seen in the wild. This approach reinforces the businesses attitude that security is a cost center, is reactionary, and doesn't generate value for the business.

Splunk provides a better approach. It collects and indexes all of your machine data, enabling end-to-end situational awareness, real-time monitoring of incidents and attacks and new levels of visibility and intelligence. This helps security teams move from reactive to proactive.

Splunking Big Data

Machine Data is one of the Fastest Growing, Most Pervasive Segments of Big Data. Machine data results from every website click, device-to-device communication and social media interaction. It is generated by all the applications, servers and network devices running your business - physical, virtual and cloud. Machine data contains critical information on user behavior, cyber-security risks, service levels, fraudulent activity and customer experience. It's the fastest growing, most pervasive area of "big data". We think it's also the most valuable.

Splunk was founded specifically to focus on the challenges and opportunity of effectively managing massive amounts of machine data. Over 3,300 customers in 75+ countries use Splunk to harness the power of their machine data for application management, IT operations, cyber security, compliance, web intelligence and business analytics. With Splunk they achieve new levels of visibility and insights that benefit IT and the business.

  • Splunk Launches Splunk App for Enterprise Security 2.0

SAN FRANCISCO - February 7, 2012 - Splunk Inc., a leading provider of software for real-time operational intelligence, today announced the general availability of its Enterprise Security Intelligence Solution, consisting of the Splunk App for Enterprise Security 2.0, and Splunk® Enterprise™ 4.3, the company's flagship software for collecting, indexing and harnessing machine data.

"While more and more organizations are embracing the power of big data, many are ignoring the security threats that lurk within that information. Customers who use Splunk Enterprise to monitor and analyze machine data to gain insights into their operations in real-time can use the Splunk App for Enterprise Security to monitor, identify, investigate and respond to critical known and unknown security threats," said Christina Noren, senior vice president of solutions for Splunk.

Splunk Enterprise provides visibility into a broad range of IT events including those that are beyond the purview of traditional security solutions, but are increasingly security-relevant. Splunk's big-data engine enables security professionals to quickly understand unknown threats hidden as patterns in terabytes of normal user-credentialed activities that can mean the presence of advanced malware or a malicious insider. The Splunk App for Enterprise Security provides the out-of-the-box security content that, combined with the core Splunk engine, delivers a next-generation security solution for monitoring known threats, support for forensic investigations, big data analytics to help identify advanced persistent threats, and dashboards for security posture and investigation workflows.

"Big data and security analytics have become joined at the hip as of late," said Andrew Hay, senior analyst for 451 Research's Enterprise Security Practice (ESP). "The out-of-the-box" security content of the new Splunk App for Enterprise Security, combined with the big data analytics capabilities of the Splunk platform, delivers users a SIEM-like experience for massive data sets."

The new Splunk App for Enterprise Security 2.0 builds upon the innovation of previous product releases, and leverages the Splunk Enterprise software, adding many benefits for security teams and support for risk management:

Real-time Event Correlation: Searches and alerts drive continuous monitoring of critical assets using dashboards and communications to members of the security team
Dashboards: Visualizations of security data support more than 100 security metrics and over 160 reports
Drill-down and drill-across: In a single click, users can access raw data quickly for analysis and pivot across the raw data-types to follow an investigation wherever it leads
Federated Identity Monitoring: Correlation of multiple user identities to identify and investigate user activities across the IT infrastructure
Enhanced incident management: The ability to reprioritize, reassign and journal security events for quick resolution and incident response
Operationalization of findings: Once a forensic investigation is complete, users can click the 'save' button to continuously monitor and alert for the same condition.
"The Splunk App for Enterprise Security, together with core Splunk and other community supported apps available through SplunkBase, continue to provide a flexible solution of security metrics and dashboards that support views of our total enterprise risk," said Dan Frye, associate vice president, Corporate Security CedarCrestone, Inc.

Splunk App for Enterprise Security 2.0 is available to current customers for immediate download. New users can contact Splunk sales at sales@splunk.com.
