The naked truth about motors
To many it is an unknown and surprising fact: pumps and their motors consume 10% of the world’s electrical power. But that is set to change for the better when the eup (energy using product) motor directive comes into effect in June 2011.

EuP directive and Grundfos Blueflux® motor technology
The Energy using Products (EuP) motor directive (EC640/2009) will soon set strict new requirements for energy efficiency in industrial applications. The directive is relevant for nearly all motors in the power range of 0.75 kW to 375 kW, and introduces a new mandatory scale for their efficiency. This scale starts with IE1 as the lowest and current efficiency standard and has IE3 as the highest.
> The directive will come into effect on June 16th 2011 and will gradually increase efficiency requirements in a 3 stage process.
> From 2011 all motors must meet the IE2 high efficiency standard and all motors below this will be prohibited.
> From January 1st 2015 all 7.5 kW to 375 kW motors must meet the IE3 standard or meet the IE2 standard and be equipped with a variable frequency drive (VFD).
> And in the last stage of the directive, which comes into effect in 2017, all 0.75 kW to 375 kW norm motors must meet the IE3 standard - or meet the IE2 standard and be equipped with a variable frequency drive (VFD).
Grundfos Blueflux® is a range of Grundfos electric motor technology solutions that are designed specifically for high efficiency performance in pump applications.
Grundfos Blueflux® can reduce pump energy consumption by up to 60%.
A Grundfos Blueflux® solution can be either an IE3 high-efficiency motor or an IE2 with an integrated or external variable frequency drive (VFD).
