Biofilm removal by Enzymes
A Biofilm is a slime layer that adheres on surfaces : development of strong bacterias and organic polymers.
It’s a very cleaning-resistant pool of micro-organisms. Biofim develops on many different surfaces : pipes, membrane filtering, surgical instruments,...
Current problem:
Biofilms are recognized as a critical and hard to remove contamination source because extremely resistant to cleaning and hygiene procedures.
Classical cleaning methods don’t give performant results:
corrosive products for material and dangerous products for users;
limited effectiveness: partial eradication of biofilm and risk of new contamination;
negative impact on the environment.
European research project NETZYM
Collaboration with two scientific partners (two years) : UCL (Catholic university of Louvain, Belgium) and INRA (National institute of the Agronomic research, France).
Realco works out an association of 2 products allowing the elimination of the biofilm :
an alcaline detergent base (BIOREM A : light buffered alcaline, containing vegetable surfactants) is associated with a very innovative enzymatic cocktail (BIOREM 10).
Why an enzymatic solution ?
« Enzyme is a protein that transforms organic matters into small water-soluble residues in an irreversible way. »
Enzymes selected by REALCO act specifically on the polymers which form the structure of the biofilm, destroy them and extract the biofilm of its surface.
So the disinfectant can completely act and assure an optimal
hygiene of the surface.
REALCO’s expertise:
Realco, while developing product range BIOREM, manages to dissociate solutions classically used in industry. Its process presents important advantages:
complete elimination of the biofilms ;
removal of further contamination ;
non aggressive for the operator ;
non corrosive for the material ;
positive impact on environment.

REALCO offers a complete and personal consulting of the production installation, in collaboration with the client.
REALCO wins the Innovation Award, for biofilm removal by enzymatic way, delivered by CFIA (Carrefour des fournisseurs de l'industrie alimentaire - Food Industry suppliers annual Meeting). Rennes - 10th March 2009 - France.
