The Packaging Centre is an independent research centre which offers services that aim at supporting small- and medium-sized enterprises in choosing and adapting packages, packaging materials and attributes with modern, fast and correct characterisation and test techniques and a correct scientific interpretation of the results.

The Packaging Centre offers following services to the industry:
• Applied research and evaluation of materials, packaging and accessories
• Technical advice
• Packaging innovation and Ecodesign

The Packaging Centre was founded in 1998 as a spin-off of the Xios Technical University Limburg, department of industrial sciences and technology, which also organises the unique education "Industrial Engineer Packaging Technology ".

The establishment was supported because of the squat need for adapted
measuring equipment within the Euregion. The equipment for the laboratory required an investment of 1.5 milj. €. , funded by the European Union and the province of Limburg and the contribution of the Xios Technical University Limburg.

From 2001 onward the services have been extended within the Packaging Centre
with packing innovation & ecodesign.
