Your way to the fair
If you are flying, your destination is the Rhine-Ruhr airport Düsseldorf International. Every day, it counts over 500 take-offs and landings and offers flight connections to over 170 cities in Germany and abroad. You will find the information counter of Messe Essen at the center of the Arrivals level in Terminal B.
The Airport Shuttle Bus will take you directly from Düsseldorf International Airport to the fair grounds in Essen and back again. The buses set off from the Arrivals level, in front of the Terminal, at exit C of the airport. The buses in Essen set off at the same time. The shuttle buses run every 30 minutes from 7.45 to 18.45 on all days of the fair and without any stops in-between. The travelling time is 20 minutes in each direction. The bus stops in Essen are set up and signposted at the fair building "Ost" and on Lührmannstraße.
The costs for the transfer from Düsseldorf International Airport to Messe Essen and back total 20 euros (no warranty).
By car or cab
You can reach the fair by car in 10 minutes. By taxi it is only about a 20-minute drive to Messe Essen. Hire cars are available at Düsseldorf International Airport for the short trip on the motorways A44 and A52. Messe Essen offers 7,000 parking spaces close to the fair (see access map above).
At the railway station in Düsseldorf airport you can choose between three ICE lines (40/45,10 and 41) which will bring you to the Essen main railway station in just 22 minutes. Check out our special offer for an economical and emission-free ICE-ride to the fair with Deutsche Bahn!
Three regional express trains (RE1, 6 and 11) go to the Essen main railway station in addition to the commuter train (S1).
You reach Messe Essen in 5 minutes with the underground train U 11 from the main railway station (Messe Ost/Gruga or Messe West/Süd stops).
