Our speakers

Hywel Jarman


Hywel Jarman, Director of External Affairs, EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation

As director of external affairs, Hywel promotes manufacturing and the wider industry to political parties, advisers, the media and others who play an influential role in shaping the business landscape. He also leads EEF’s Brussels team, who are working closely with Ceemet, our European association, to support an industrial renaissance in Europe.

Hywel began his career in journalism at the BBC before going on to work for regional and national newspapers. Prior to joining EEF, Hywel held a number of senior communications roles in local government, the NHS and the police. He also supported the development of the academies programme in England and spent five years as a non-executive director and deputy chairman of an NHS Hospital Trust.

Peter Winebloom


Peter Winebloom, Technical Director, EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation

Peter has been working in the manufacturing and engineering sectors, involved in apprentice training for most of his a career. He has substantial experience in developing learners, employees, employers and occupational standards, with a wide range of employers . He is responsible for apprentice and skills delivery on behalf of EEF’s clients at the Technology Training campus in Birmingham, as well as further afield. As a former apprentice himself, Peter is passionate about the value an apprenticeship brings to both employers and future engineering and manufacturing professionals.

Martin Strutt


Martin Strutt, Region Director and National Consultancy Lead, EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation

Martin is responsible for managing and developing relationships with EEF member companies helping them to compete better, innovate and grow. He also works with partner organisations and the media  and is responsible for designing and delivering a programme of  events which enable manufacturers to network, share best practice and learn from experts. A highly accomplished Operations Director with many years’ experience working with a range of manufacturing businesses, Martin has a proven track record of reorganisation, process improvement and profit growth gained in both Line Management roles and Partner level consulting roles with major Consulting firms.
