Gunwant D

Gunwant Dhadyalla, Principal Engineer - Energy and Electrical Systems Group, WMG, University of Warwick

Gunwant graduated with honours with a Masters in engineering from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine. His track record includes working for OEMs including Rover Group, Rolls-Royce and Bentley, and technology developers including Valeo Group, Germany. He is currently Principal Engineer in the Energy and Electrical Systems group at WMG, University of Warwick leading the intelligent vehicles engineering function on projects including INTACT - accelerating the testing of low speed autonomous vehicles, with RDM Group, using the WMG 3xD simulator, SAVVY - Smart Verification & Validation methodologies for ADAS technology, UKCITE - test methods for testing cyber security of connected technology, PICASSOS - developing new tools for the UK supply chain to improve the integrity of embedded software systems and systems of systems using formal verification tools and techniques.

Lawrence Davies MBE, CEO, Automotive Investment Organisation, DIT

Lawrence Davies has had a 35 year career in the automotive industry. He started at General Motors (GM) in the UK within purchasing and supply chain after which he spent 4 years at Opel in Germany and spells in France and the USA. He became Director of GM UK Purchasing and Supply Chain in 2006. In 2013 Lawrence joined UK Trade & Investment’s Automotive Investment Organisation (AIO) as Deputy CEO and plays a lead role in the AIO’s programme of engagement with automotive companies worldwide to promote the UK. He was made a fellow of the Institute of Purchasing in 2015. This year Lawrence was appointed CEO. The AIO is now part of the Department for International Trade.

Lawrence was awarded the MBE in the Queens 2016 New Year’s honours list

Paul Andrews, Founder and CEO of OakTec, Inventor of the Pulse-R engine technology

Paul studied mechanical engineering at the University of Manchester before moving into the retail motor business and by his late 20’s ran a chain of franchise car dealerships. Always an innovator Paul established OakTec in the late 1990’s to focus on several novel concepts in the field of low carbon power systems. OakTec became pioneers of hybrid energy recovery technology in motorsport, developing the Honda IMA system and competing a hybrid Honda Insight with great success in stage rallies. This work was used as a benchmark by the FIA before hybrid KERS systems were developed in Formula 1. OakTec’s core technology is the novel Pulse-R multi-gas engine which is now the sole focus of the business. Pulse-R is highly efficient, fuel tolerant and low cost to manufacture. The first product for global markets is being developed for electricity generation, agricultural and industrial applications and small vehicles.

Kieron is Managing Director of K W Special Projects, a high performance design and engineering solution provider.

Kieron Salter completed an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at Oxford Polytechnic (now Oxford Brookes University) in 1993 and went on to work at Reynard Motorsport Ltd.

In 2003, Kieron and Will Phillips set up K W Motorsports providing services to Le Mans and Indycar as well as other motorsports project.  In 2012 Kieron established K W Special Projects as a result of working in sectors other than motorsport.  KWSP, a high performance engineering consultancy, transfers technology between sectors, integrating a range of technologies to provide complete engineering solutions across sectors.

Richard Collins, Technology Analyst, IDTechex

Richard Collins, PhD, is a technology analyst at IDTechEx where he leads their research on lightweight technologies. This research focuses on lightweight materials including composites, advanced porous materials, and lightweight metals as well as alternate lightweighting technologies.

Richard’s work has included producing interview-based company profiles for companies spanning the entire value chain, authorship of several IDTechEx reports, keynote and masterclass presentations at international conferences, and delivering custom consulting projects for billion-dollar companies.

Richard was awarded his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Oxford. He worked on the design and synthesis of organometallic catalysts as part of an industrial collaboration concerning the production of elastomers.

Malcolm is a passionate automotive ‘Futurist’ with over 20 year’s disruptive technology experience, and was part of the team which launched the world’s 1st live real-time electronic car auction in 1993.

More recently as business partner of Magma’s late Dr Martin Leach the creator of the NIO EV super car. He has worked around the world advising major Global Automotive OEMs on future retailing.

He’s leading the investment activity to bring, what many are describing as the ‘Holy Grail’ of battery technology to market.

After graduation of faculty of intercultural communication at Hosei University (Tokyo, Japan), he has worked for Toho Tenax (carbon fiber manufacture in Teijin group) as marketing specialist and also experienced business planning since 2005. In parallel, he got a master degree of business administration (MBA) at Hosei University in 2013 for B2B marketing.

In 2015, he moved to Toho Tenax Europe. He has worked as a sales development manager for automotive application and promoted carbon fiber, its intermediate materials, and composites parts. Teijin acquired Continental Structural Plastics (Michigan, US) in January 2017, and can offer fully covered composites solutions (GFRP : (GF-SMC), CFRP : PvP (HP-RTM), CF-SMC and Sereebo (CF/Thermoplastic Composites)).

David Vickerman is Business Development Manager at GRM Consulting. He has a mechanical engineering background and has over 5 years engineering simulation experience specialising in both the linear and non-linear analysis of composite materials. He has been involved in projects across a wide range of different sectors and has experience of all major structural FEA methods. He has utilised and helped develop advanced FE optimisation techniques for composites using GRM’s Genesis software.

Peter Quigley, Engineering Manager, CCP Gransden

Peter Quigley is the Engineering Manager at CCP Gransden where he leads the development and commercial application of new advanced composite technologies.  
After graduating with an MEng in Aeronautical Engineering from Queens University Belfast, Peter gained extensive experience in the development of advanced composites as a Senior Research Engineer at Bombardier Aerospace.  In his 10 years with the company, he was part of the team which developed the Resin Infusion process now used in the CSeries aircraft wing, and later specialised in thermoplastic composites and injection moulding technologies.
In 2015, Peter moved to CCP Gransden and began the task of developing the next generation of advanced composite technologies, with a focus on high volume manufacture.   Peter is well connected across multiple industry sectors and within the wider advanced composites supply chain network.  He is also a firm believer in collaborative partnerships to support technology advancement and business growth.  He has close ties to local universities and colleges, not only in technology research, but also in the mentoring of the next generation of young engineers.  Peter now leads a team of experienced engineers, who together have developed novel light-weighting technologies and capabilities to meet the needs of CCP Gransden’s Clients.
