CMS was founded in 1969 by Pietro Aceti, the Companies guiding principle of development has been always been to be a Company that serves other Companies.

Today at its Headquarters in Zogno Italy the Company employs over 680 people and specializes in the production of multi-axis CNC machining centres, thermoforming machines and water-jet cutting systems. This wide production range enables C.M.S. to meet the needs of several industrial fields including aerospace, automotive, marine industry, wind power generation, eyewear, building, moulds, prototypes, stone, glass and wood processing. This extensive portfolio of products, combined with processing quality and precision, offers flexible, innovative and effective solutions to meet the various production process phases or the customers' specifics needs.

In 2015 CMS became part of the large SCM Group who design and manufacture woodworking machinery and systems.

The Group has a UK office in Nottingham and employs a team of Engineers focused entirely on the installation, application support and maintenance of installed systems.

  • Continued Developement at CMS

This year CMS will be showcasing the many new developments introduced over the last 12 months including new additions to the already extensive machine range and enhancements to the existing machine range.
New machines include the Ikon and the Ethos K, the Ikon machine has been designed by CMS for trimming machining precision composite parts, compact in design the Ikon minimizes the floor-space required for such a large capacity machine and features two vertical mounted tables each 3100mm x 1800mm with rotational movement (into and out of machining envelope) which facilitate ergonomic and efficient loading unloading of components during the machining cycle, fitted with one or two 5-axis spindles each with independent movement to maximize performance and permit multiple machining modes including simultaneous cutting of identical components, masked tool change time and simultaneous machining of symmetrical components.
The Ethos is a gantry milling machine with monolithic frame which delivers high levels of stiffness and achievable accuracy across its large working capacity, designed for high material removal rates the machine can be supplied with or without a flood coolant system and the newly designed FX5 double yoke rotary axis assembly fitted with twin direct drive motors, the CMS 32kW spindle produces high torque and RPM capability.
Enhancements to the existing range include a larger version of the Antares which is now available with deeper Y axis travel of 2800mm, cast iron table and the new HX5 compact rotary axis assembly with double yoke (second structural support arm) which increases brake torque on the rotating axes, the HX5 is fitted with the well proven CMS high torque 20kW spindle max 24000 RPM and HSK 63 A connection. Options include - through spindle air and liquid passage as well as an efficient high velocity extraction hood. This version also has additional toolchange capability and can be fitted with 3 x 20 rotary magazines as well as 2 x 8 racks for a total of 76 tools
